About Wigwam
For over 100 years, Wigwam has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of their customers by providing them the finest quality socks, as well as the assurance that their purchase of Wigwam socks supports its reputation of honesty and integrity.

When the Sheboygan Knitting Company burned down in 1904, a group of investors, along with then-Treasurer Herbert Chesebro, salvaged some of the equipment and founded the Hand Knit Hosiery Company. Over the years, the facility produced everything from stylish wool bathing suits to dog sweaters to outfitting the armed forces.

When it finally became Wigwam Mills Inc. in 1957, the knitting group was already welcoming its third generation of the Chesebro family to its staff. Robert Chesebro Jr was an avid skier and snow sport enthusiast and sooner or later the company began emphasizing their production of headwear and ski socks.

In 2005 Wigwam held its centennial celebration to commemorate the thousands of American men and women who have contributed to the success of Wigwam through the years. The entire community of Sheboygan and the state of Wisconsin celebrated and paid tribute to the American legacy that is Wigwam Mills.

Wigwam Mills, Inc. continues to knit its socks in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, U.S.A., and set itself apart from others as thousands of manufacturers in this country sacrifice quality for less-expensive labor in other areas of the world, to increase the bottom line. Wigwam continues to lobby in Washington D.C. for programs that responsibly limit the quantity of imported products coming into this country while still pursuing a policy of fair trade with many of this country’s global neighbors. Wigwam cares about the environmental, sociological, and financial implications of this policy, and wants the consumer to feel good about buying the Wigwam brand because it has set a standard of integrity that it strives to live up to every day.

The company’s manufacturing facility is state of the art and getting more "green" all of the time. Wigwam collaborates with local utilities to improve efficiency and limit its carbon footprint by installing solar energy panels to heat its water, motion sensory lights to limit wasted power, and responsible waste management to re-use and recycle as much as the company can.

Finally, Wigwam also supports wool producers in this country by sourcing wool almost exclusively from American yarn spinners who buy from American wool growers. In addition, Wigwam supports domestic yarn spinners whenever possible and works with them to get the best quality natural and manmade fibers and yarn for all of its products.
