I was disappointed that the pair of Sundowners was made in [*]. My old pair of Sundowners purchased 21 years ago was made in USA. They have been resoled twice and are still serviceable, but I felt that I should get a new pair. These new ones are slightly different from the old pair, but appear to be of the same quality, however only time will tell.

I've owned 4 pair of these boots and simply can't get enough. I'm constantly in and out of the office on a daily basis and wear them 7 months out of the year! Each pair I've bought have lasted nearly a year and half. Campmor is one of the few places I've still been able to find this older model of boot. Have bought a few casual Vasque shoes as well and haven't been disappointed.

I bought my first pair of these boots in the mid 1980s and am about to retire my third pair. I wear them almost every day and almost every place, so they get a lot of miles and a lot of abuse. I treat them with good leather grease once in a while. My second pair (bought in 1993 or so) - worn out and relegated to muck work on the farm in 2001 - are just now starting to leak a little when I wade the creek. My "good" pair is still water proof but the soles are just about worn through. 10 years is a pretty good lifetime for everyday boots. They are certainly the most comfortable shoes I've ever had, including sneakers.

These boots are made for hiking. I still have my SkyWalkers after 15 years and hundreds of miles on the trail. The Sundowner is basically the same model, just a new name. They take some serious beatings and stay waterproof and stable. Keep in mind, they do require some breaking in and can cause blisters. But, with the right socks/liners, and a few trips around the park to break them in, you should be very happy on the trail. They are also great for alternative lacing when needed.
Basically, if you are looking for a pair of boots that will hold up for years in any weather, these are the ones. Happy hiking.

These are great, most anytime/any place boots for "Short Hikes" with "Minimal" loads on fairly "Even" terrain. I always keep a pair in the car for emergencies/bad weather/impromptu hikes/etc. However I would not recommend them for any serious hiking with normal to heavy loads on uneven terrain. They are not designed to provide serious lateral ankle support like a true alpine boot. The toe box and sidewalls are not substantially re-enforced. The ankle/lacing/ gusset padding is minimal and can feel biting if tighten for performance. The soles are thin and flex quite easily instead of being stiff and designed to roll forward, so not good with even strap-on crampons. And my experience with Gore-Tex as a water repelling boot liner has been, shall we keep it clean, less than stellar. I treat the leather with a high quality repellent and have had few problems with my current pair which are going on 20 years of usage.(even with all of the salty slush we endure here in the northern rust-belt winters) Having said all of that, I think these are great boots for what they are. As stated earlier they are offered in many larger sizes and are reasonably priced. I was very happy to see that Vasque is still offering this "Classic". As stated above, my current pair is still going strong after almost 2 decades, although I'm sure they could use a re-soling. Given their limitations, I would definately recommend these boots to anyone for any occasional "easy" off-trail tromping.[...] They are a great resource for hard to find sizes.

So far, love the boots. As other reviewers have noted, they are stiff when first tried on and need to be broken in. However, they break in quickly and feel solid so far. Good ankle support, comfortable, and warm. I can tell they're not going to be the most breathable boot on the planet, but I think the durability is worth the tradeoff. Looking forward to using them more on the trail.

give it a couple weeks to work in and it will mold to your foot. I've worn these boots for more than 20 years

this is my 3rd or 4th pair. consistent quality and performance. the only drawback i see is the skywalk sole is not available anymore.
