We travelled to Costa Rica and it was wet. Poncho kept me dry and my camera dry. Wonderful and delighted I had it. Compact and easy to take out during a hike, put on, and put away after use. Sealed the seams and brought a belt to keep it in place and it worked while zip lining. Wow.

Comments about Campmor Ultralite Extension Poncho/Tarp:

I used the rain poncho during a three day continual rain backpacking trip through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was instrumental in keeping me, my backpack and all of my equipment dry for the entire trip. It also worked as a wind shield from the gale force winds coming off of Lake Superior. I wouldn't have survived without the poncho as the first line of weather protection. It was great!!!

Comments about Campmor Ultralite Extension Poncho/Tarp:

I've used this on several multi-day hikes as both a poncho and tarp shelter. It's a an excellent multipurpose item, that costs less than half the price of similar products.

You do need to seal the seams with silnet, but you would need to do that for pretty much any silnylon poncho.

If you are looking for a poncho only, you can get much cheaper than this. The beauty of this poncho is that it has adequate tie-outs to enable you to use it as a tarp shelter, using trekking poles. It is surprisingly sturdy, and roomy enough for 1 person, and if you have a partner who has one also, they can be joined into a 2 person shelter. At 9.5 oz., and considering the dual purpose of both tarp and poncho, this is a much lighter option than even a regular silnylon tarp.

You can configure this as a high A-frame shelter, but I think it works best as either a lean-to or half pyramid.

The extension adds needed length, and I would recommend this one over the shorter version for just this reason. The extension rolls up via snaps and velcro, so it won't get in the way when you are walking, (if you don't have a big pack).

There are snaps down the side which enable the sides to become sleeves. In windy conditions, this poncho, like any other, will flap in the wind, and I bring a small amount of ultralight cord to act as a sort of belt, which helps keep it from flapping and getting caught in trekking poles.

There is a drawcord to tighten the hood, but there is no bill built into the hood, so a billed hat helps.

I carried this poncho in Jasper Park hiking and backpacking. It fit into small spaces such as the water bottle pocket, making it easy to access. I wore it one rainy day backpacking and it worked great. It did catch on my trekking poles a couple times, but otherwise was excellent.

Just. Used it backpacking in Jasper National Park. It only drizzled but the poncho kept me, my pack, and camera bag dry. My trekking poles caught on the corners a few times, but otherwise, great. It packs really small so is convenient to keep at hand and it's very light.

would like to afford cuben instead of silnylon, but it would have been over $200 -- tho much lighter

would have preferred sized as the old GI poncho I had but which weighed a ton; in a light weight material, having coverage for whole arm while in a rain storm and bigger when used as a shelter/tarp would be desirable

a bit of trouble to mix up and apply some seam sealer, but that was no big deal

                      overall, a great price/weight compromise

Great price, but I bought it 2 days before a backpack trip on the PCT and it rained 3 days right off the bat so I wasn't very familiar with the snaps. Kept me dry but it was very windy and the poncho was billowing all over and kept getting tangled in my trekking poles.I should have purchased the regular or short model since I'm an ultralight hiker and I didn't need the extra length in the rear to cover my small pack. Now that I'm home I can tweak it and maybe add a snap here and there to fit me better. It is great quality & worked as expected as my a- frame shelter. Wish it was roomier in the neck.My mistake for not trying it out before taking off on my trip. Campmor as usual sent my order right out and I received it in 3 days.

The 116 in reference is including from the top of the hood down the front and back. The length of the shelter will not include the hood because the hood is not part of the shelter.

The distance from the top of the hood to the bottom hem is 78". The front hem will fall at 52" measured from your collar bone down. If you are carrying a pack the extension goes over the pack you are carrying and the poncho will not fall to the same point when not wearing a pack.

Does the hood have a visor and visor adjustments (such as a velcro tab in the back)?

Ultralite Extension Poncho/Tarp dose not have a visor on the hood. Use a ball cap to keep hood in place and out of your eyes.

I have the regular sized version of this and love it. I want it just a little longer. Does the extension hand down only in the back or is the length on front and back the same?
