Both thickness and density (padding) have been taken into consideration when assigning Level of Protection to each Thor•Los style. Each style features padding engineered to protect your feet for the intended usage.
- Protection Level 3 - Maximum protection for the most rugged and challenging activites and weather conditions.
- Protection Level 2 - Moderate protection for those activites that are somewhat strenuous but are not of long duration.
- Protection Level 1 - Minimum protection for those activities that range from casual/leisure to 'walks in the park'.

Comments about Thorlos CoolMax Light Hiking Socks: I bought four pairs recently to replace some that I bought 15 years ago and wore regularly. They didn't wear out: one by one, they were "lost" in the wash. You cannot wear these things out, and they're the most comfortable socks I've got.

Comments about Thorlos CoolMax Light Hiking Socks: I use these socks with both my low and mid hiking shoes. They keep my feet cushioned and dry. Work great on short and long hikes. Most recent hike was 5 hour CastlePoint/Awosting Loop in the Shawangunk Mountains of NY in 90 degree heat. Held up great! I would highly recommend these socks over the Wigwam Ultimax Quarter Cool-Lite Hiker Socks that I had been using before.

Was able to dry them and use the pair the next day. Why waste a good pair of socks on still wet boots? They look like they should hold up well, but I have not worn them long enough to know.
