Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

This seems to be a really good sleeping pad. Its lightweight and is extremely comfortable compared to the thermarest z lite which I just switched from. I used it during early spring while the ground was still frozen and kept my off the ground and warm.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

I was expecting a dreamy sleep on a recent backpack trip with my new 40th Anniversary edition thermarest. I followed the directions, prefilled it at home before packing it for the trip, and blew in extra air after self-inflating it before using it. Every night, the pad lost air and was nearly flat in the morning. Yes, the valve was completely closed. I would have been more comfortable with my old, leaky 15 year old thermarest. I'm sending it back, and hoping for better luck with a different model.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

A buddy recommended this one to me. He had a regular-size, which was too small, and was going to order the large-size. I just had second weekend with this pad in a Hennessey Asymmetric hammock. It replaced the double bubble pad that I had gotten with the hammock three years ago, and didn't like because of the noise and extra space it required in my pack. As a big guy (6'5" & 240#), I need to add insulation beneath me but not on the sides, as that would cause the pad to slide around in the hammock. Huge test was this weekend, with 39-degrees temperature and 20 miles-per-hour winds all night. The pad kept me warm on the bottom, and the sleeping bag took care of the sides and top. Just letting the pad inflate on its own is plenty of insulation; over inflate and it would become unmanageable in the hammock, just as a wider pad would be. Bright yellow color is easy to see with little light when readying to sleep.
Campmor got it to me without muss and fuss. Probably cannot still get this anniversay-edition model, but I would expect similar qualify from similar Therm-a-rest pads. For car camping, I probably would get a larger pad, and perhaps thicker if temperatures down in the 'teens.
Reason for 4 instead of 5: It is quite challenging to insert the rolled pad into the yellow stuff sack. A bag of slightly larger diameter would have been much easier to pack.

I have the regular size one and my wife took a knap on it. She totally like it and ordered her own. Her old one was nice but sounded like potato chip when she moved around.

I have a 13 year old Thermarest, that is still doing the job, but wanted a tapered mat for inside a bivy. My first impression of the 40th Anniversary mat was, "WOW! They sure have improved over the years!" This mat is half the packed size of my old mat and lighter, yet twice as thick.
I've used this mat only once, but I'm a side sleeper and never felt the ground (even with a little air let out, for comfort). I used this mat inside my bivy, camped on the snow/frozen ground, in a down bag, on a 20 degree night and never felt the cold.
I have no complaints, only accolades for the design crew at Cascade Designs.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

Terrific sleeping pad. I did a lot of research before landing on this model. I like the self-inflating properties of the Thermarest but wanted something that would pack smaller than the standard Thermarest pad. This model is very similar to the ProLite Plus, but with a few notable upgrades. Like the ProLite Plus, the pad self inflates, packs compactly, is plenty wide around the shoulders, and is ideal for all seasons.

The 40th anniversary differs from the ProLite Plus in that it has a slightly higher R value (4.0 vs 3.8), is 2 inches thick vs 1.5, has a cool glow-in-the-dark nozzle, comes with a repair kit , and sports a throwback yellow color scheme complete with retro logo. It is 2 oz heavier, but for the extra thickness I think it's worth it.

I'm 6'3" tall and ordered the large version. It's plenty big and very comfortable. I highly recommend this pad for anyone looking for a solid 4-season pad that packs small, self inflates, is very comfortable, and doesn't break the bank. Enjoy!

I replaced a short prolite plus pad with this 40th anniversary pad. The packed size and weight is almost identical to my short prolite plus, yet I get a 2" thick pad (vs. 1.5") that pads my whole body. The few ounces you save with a short pad isn't worth the sacrifice in comfort. The glow in the dark valve is a neat idea but unnecessary. Overall, I am very happy with this pad.

What is the difference between the women's and the regular? I'm female but I wonder if I can save 10$ and have more versatility with the extra length (for only 0.1 ounce more). Thanks.

No substantial difference between a regular and a women's. The Women's is shorter at a full length of 66" while a regular is 72" long and the women's is lighter by 1 oz.

So the width of the large is 25 inches from head to toe? This pad sure looks tapered in this picture. Can you be specific about width dimensions on the large please.
What is the stuff size of the large if the width is 25 inches.

The width at the top and at the bottom is 25". It does not taper, this is just the pucture of the item with a wide angle lens.

The regular pad is listed for 20" width but it's tapered. Is 20" the width at the head or an average width? What is the length of the width at the foot for a regular size? Thanks!

The Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition pad is not tapered. For the Small, regular and womens the width is 20" and the Large is 25",

This should have a very high temperature tolerance and will handle desert temps without a problem.
