Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

I've just returned from a 4-night high Sierra backpacking trip on which I used this pad. I was very happy with its thickness, warmth (I was camped at 10,900'), durability, and ease of inflation. I like a very firm pad, and it took just a couple of breaths of my own to get it to that thickness after allowing it to self-inflate. Also the pad is much lighter to carry than older Thermarest pads I've used.

It was the perfect solution for me. Two years ago I was using an air pad, the lightest there is, but it was hard to inflate and was fragile enough that it ultimately failed me (I still haven't found the leak in that pad). I replaced that with a closed-cell foam pad, which was bulky and uncomfortable. Finally I bought this pad, and I'm really glad I did.

This pad seemed durable enough that I brought it outside the tent to lounge on during a layover day, and that worked fine.

I also found it easy to roll up. I folded it over twice and sat on it, then closed the valve and rolled halfway up from the bottom, then opened the valve again as I rolled it the rest of the way up. This method allowed me to get it tightly rolled enough with just one try. I did use an older, larger stuff sack rather than the one this pad came with - it was easier to pack it up that way.

Have had the regular size for while and have loved it, but being a side sleeper decided to pick up the large for those times when the extra ounces don't matter so much. Can't beat these for the weight/thickness ratio in self-inflating mattresses.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

I did a 3 night backpack and it was great. I also have the ultralight Thermarest (13 oz) but it always seemed cold to me and took a lot of puffing. This 40th addition Thermarest was perfect, great insulation and I didn't feel a thing. It weights about 2 lbs (I got he larger size for more elbow room) but tt is worth carrying the extra weight for the comfort and warmth. I cut weight with a tarptent.
Tip: to get it in the bag - First roll the pad in the sleep position to get all the air out. Close the valve, unroll it and then fold it in half length wise (like it came when you bought it). Then reroll it and let the last bit of air out.

I took this on a 2 night backpacking trip to Montana. It rolls very small and is very light for packing miles. I am 5'6" and 160lbs. I never felt the ground under me and was very comfy. My only complaint is that it's pretty narrow and just a little to short for me. Because it was comfy and light, I will definately keep it and use it for many trips to come!

Perfect pad. I have bought 3 of this pad. It's very comfortable to lie on, soft and thick enough.
It also comes with a stuff sack and a repair kit.
The "rubberized" bottom is great, and the pad don't move at night. The only thing would annoy me a little bit is that, the pad is a little bit narrow.

Perfect pad. I think it is almost the lightest pad with similar spec. R-value is 4.0, self-inflate,2 inches thick and still keeps its weight to about 1 pound. It's very comfortable to lie on, soft.
Another bonus is the fact that it comes with a stuff sack and a repair kit.

Made sleeping quite comfortable backpacking in the Grand Canyon for 4 days. The 2" thickness is great. Folds and rolls to nice compact size, great for packing. It does crinkle a bit when you roll over on it during the night, otherwise, great product and nice price.

So the width of the large is 25 inches from head to toe? This pad sure looks tapered in this picture. Can you be specific about width dimensions on the large please.
What is the stuff size of the large if the width is 25 inches.

The width at the top and at the bottom is 25". It does not taper, this is just the pucture of the item with a wide angle lens.

The regular pad is listed for 20" width but it's tapered. Is 20" the width at the head or an average width? What is the length of the width at the foot for a regular size? Thanks!

The Thermarest 40th Anniversary Edition pad is not tapered. For the Small, regular and womens the width is 20" and the Large is 25",

This should have a very high temperature tolerance and will handle desert temps without a problem.
