I used these sailing and while maybe not as good as something designed for sailing, they were good for the price. I'm a 34 waist and the s/m size did work for me. I had to work them up over my waist because the drawstring is too short/tight. I am going to remove the string and I think they will be perfect... you really don't need it as the elastic in waist holds well by itself. They are perfect size in the butt and leg area.

Got two of these - one for me and one for my daughter to use for snowboarding. After bruising my tailbone I figured it was time to get some padding on my rear! I'm glad I read the reviews because the sizing is incorrect. I went with the L/XL and it fits perfectly. I'm only a waist size 33! 35 would probably be the max before these start to get uncomfortable. My teen daughter is a size 2 or 3 and the XS fits her perfectly.

The shorts are essentially biking shorts with interior pockets that hold a dense foam similar to what you'd find in a football helmet. Good choice of foam because it is dense (won't crush) and is lightweight. Totally adequate padding and it's only 1/2" thick. Keeps your read end warm when you are sitting in the snow strapping your boot into your binding.

No pain for either of us even when we crashed. I hardly remembered that I had them on because they are quite comfortable. But they felt a little weird when I was driving. A little pricey in my opinion, but it pays off for the added protection.

The padding is not too thick. Helped when I learned snowboarding. Your butt will still hurt, but can't imaging doing it without. I like it because it is not overly thick so it didn't hurt movement range. it also keep your butt warm from sitting on the snow to put your boots into the binding. The material is nice and soft. since you are wearing snow pants outside of it, I think the durability of the material is not a big issue.

nice and affordable but the padding should be a little thicker, I felt it on hard falls expecially on the tail bone part, but fixing with some extra padding ;) a nice thing about it you can remove and add more if you want

I wear these skiing. I've always been able to get up after a fall and start skiing again, but often felt that I was no longer performing at my peak. With this extra padding at the hips, there is no diminishing performance after a fall. My 36" waist barely fits into the large size, so stay thin.

These are wonderful! I took up the snowboard this season and as a beginner many falls occur. These shorts literally save my butt every time I fall now. I sustained some Major bum bruising before I had these (2week recovery) and now I haven't had a bruise since. Now, these don't stop all the falls from hurting, but they definitely take the worst of the sting away and help prevent that Deep bruising.
Sizing listed is way off. I am a 32" waist and the L/XL fit perfectly. I originally bought both sizes, as the S/M "should" have fit.
Also, if you are planning on wearing these under ski pants, make sure you have ski pants that are an extra size larger!! You will gain >1" in hip/butt width.

My second Seirus pants, lost first pair ;-).
However this time S/M sure is sure not up to 34inch waist size as stated. I am 6f at 185lbs with 18% body fat and rubber bands are killing me. I hope the rubber bands will relax somehow or I have to gift it away to smaller friends. If you between 32-34 take Large - you will be happy skier for long time.
PS:
The second choice is to hit my gym hard for a month and drop below 32. What a heck !!! The pants worth it !!!

Would be better if it has stretchy draw cord. The cord that is in there does not stretch. I got the XL size. The size is good, but I have a hard time getting the draw cord over my hips.

I have osteoporosis and wanted something with hip pads for ice skating. These padded shorts do the job well. I am 5'11" and weigh 160. I bought the large/xl size, and it is a good fit.

The large/xl size will not fit someone who is much larger than me.
