Comments about Reliance Luggable Loo Portable Toilet:

I collect rocks and fossils in the field on car camping trips, usually where only primitive or no facilities are available. After my last trip, where I was trying to dig a latrine in hard ground with a hand trowel, I decided to try something different. Found this on Campmor site and decided to give it a try. The product is a great idea, but the execution is a little limited. You take a 5-gallon bucket and slap a toilet seat on it, line it with biodegradable poo bags and you're in business. The bucket is very sturdy, like other buckets you can find in a dumpster. The seat is OK-a little small for a big guy like me, but the top cover is really flimsy. My girlfriend thinks the toilet is a lounge chair. As soon as she sat on it, she leaned back and almost broke the cover off. I don't expect this product to last for very many trips, but it gives me ideas for building one myself for next time. Product would benefit by incorporating a toilet paper holder. If asked, I'd help the manufacturer design a unit that will last. I'll provide more comments after my next trip in March, 2012.

My husband is a truck driver who sometimes gets in very remote areas without a restroom in sight. This has worked out very well for him when the need so to speak arises. Great product. It's very sturdy and works well.

Comments about Reliance Luggable Loo Portable Toilet:

Only used it once....If it weren't for the lid it would just be a regular 5 gallon paint bucket. But, due to the lid and bag the smell stays contained until opened (of course). However, after disposal, the bucket itself continues to hold onto the odor thereby needing to air outside for a few days.

                A:

The bucket is a standard Home Depot or Lowe's 5-gallon size bucket. So it won't fit a really large person.

It ships with some packets of Eco-fresh, a soluble digester (http://www.relianceproducts.com/products/sanitation/89.html). I just used the loo for #1, and found it got rank after 2 days, so should be emptied daily. Fill bucket with 1 gallon water before using, and consider adding some lime (like what is used in pit toilets) to neutralize the smell.
