From the perpetual drip of a rainforest trek, to the flash-bang of an afternoon thunderstorm in the mountains, the Patagonia Women's Torrentshell Rain Jacket is built for trekking and hiking in wet conditions. Tropical rainforests share at least one thing with the Patagonia Ice Cap: wet weather. For alpine hikes or travel off-trail in drenching conditions, the Torrentshell provides 2.5-layer waterproof/breathable protection that's durable, lightweight and without frills.
  • Constructed of 2.5-layer nylon ripstop shell with a waterproof/breathable H2No® barrier and Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish.
  • H2No® waterproof breathable barrier provides maximum protection in wet conditions; it blocks wind and water yet allows perspiration to escape.
  • Two-way adjustable hood with laminated visor rolls down and stows when not in use.
  • Microfleece-lined neck for comfort and enhanced protection.
  • Two-way center-front zipper with exterior and interior storm flaps to keep water out.
  • Pit zips for added ventilation with storm flaps and Deluge® DWR-treated zippers.
  • Self-fabric hook-and-loop cuff closures.
  • Two handwarmer pockets and one internal mesh drop-in pocket.
  • Jacket packs into zippered handwarmer pocket (and has a clip-in loop).
  • Drawcord hem seals out wind and rain.
  • Regular fit allows for layering and freedom of movement.
  • Recyclable through the Patagonia Common Threads Recycling Program.
  • Avg. length: 28", 1" grade per size except size XS stays same as small.
  • Import.

Comments about Patagonia Torrentshell Rain Jacket - Women's:

I use this jacket on my biking or walking/bus commute in the Pacific NW, so in the short time I've had it the waterproofing has been put to the test. It keeps me very dry, even on the seams, and is a good wind break. The breathability is not fantastic, but pretty good for a non-gortex fabric and the pit zips help. The only other con is that the fabric feels and sounds crunchy, but maybe it will soften up over time. It also seems pretty durable.

The best feature for me is that it fits well. At 5'1" and 110 lbs, it is often hard to find rain jackets that I'm not swimming in. The XS is fitted but with room for a layer or two. The arms are a slight bit too long but can be velcroed at the wrist if needed.

Comments about Patagonia Torrentshell Rain Jacket - Women's:

Product description says the zipper is two-way. It is not! The front of the jacket poofs out when I sit down. I checked this jacket in a local outfitter shop and that was not two-way either. Great jacket for walking around, but not for sitting down such as kayaking or biking. Allow extra room for layering.

Comments about Patagonia Torrentshell Rain Jacket - Women's:

I had to call the manufacturer to figure out how to store it in its pouch. You pull the pocket out, the one with the double zipper. Then you start stuffing the jacket into the pocket (anyway) and zip it up to make the pouch. Then you use a climber's clip to attach it to your belt or backpack. The collar rolls in, to stowaway. The hood has draw strings to secure it tightly in a wind storm.

I was quite pleased with the smallness of the pouch. It will be easy to take anywhere to pull out for surprise rain storms. Never being caught unprepared feels nice.

Bought this for travel, but thought I'd try it out at home first. Held up well in several good storms. Even after the storms, I was wearing it, as it serves well in windy conditions. Nice bright blue and fits well.

Great product like generally what produces Patagonia. I buys it for my wife and she's very happy and respond perfectly in Bogotá's rainy and coldest (4-12 oC) weather. Recommendation: if you are going to use the jacket with heavy underwear clothes the suggestion is to buy a size otherwise, for example in Patagonia my wife is XS, for this jacket I bought S and fit OK.

Patagonia is extremely waterproof and durable. That being said, it is dificult to quantify how long it will hold up. A lot depends on the way the garment is cared for and how many times it is laundered.

Could you please describe the "laminated visor." Is this a wide/ stiff brim, or is it something that actually pulls down and covers your face?

The Torrentshell has a longer tail in the back of the jacket than the rain shadow. The textured lining on the inside of each jacket is slightly different. Otherwise these jackets both have pit zips and their weights are very equivalent.
