Comments about Coleman Sportster II Dual Fuel 1-Burner Stove:

I have the 502 Sportster version of this same basic stove, made in 1963. I just came back from a 56 day, 10,000 mile road/camping trip where I cooked many meals with this stove. I refuel it every 2 meals, whether or not it needs it, seems to work best this way. This stove is reliable, lights easily, uses fuel available at Walmarts everywhere. The bottom of the cooking pots stay clean. The Coleman company has parts easily available on line. I have at least 5 other stoves, this is the one that I grab to go on adventures. I would love to buy a new one but I have no excuse as this one still works great.

Is it leak tight? That is, can I fill the stove at the beginning of a hike and put it in my pack and carry it full? Or would I have to get a separate fuel bottle and fill the stove and drain it after each use?

                          A:

The tank on this stove can be backpacked with. Once the stove has been cooled down, open the filler cap to release any pressure. Close it again when its de-pressurized when you pack up camp. This will seal the air pressure.

That cook pot has been discontinued. Been a long time since that cook set stove case was available.
