Windpaddle Scout Sail

Item #: 70350

Our Price: $114.95

Red Yellow

The Scout Sail from Windpaddle is intended for the recreational or touring paddler that would like to use 4-15 knot winds to their advantage. With a soft batten (to help the sail keep its shape), it is easy to deploy, lightweight and forgiving to sail with, and easily coils and folds onto the kayak deck when done sailing. The Scout is designed for downwind sailing, but with practice can sail approximately 150 degrees off-wind, using a single continuous sheet (steering line). With its included attachment clips, it easily attaches to any deck lines, clips, pad eyes, cleats, thwarts, handholds that is already on the deck of your boat. Also easily switches between boats.
  • Easy to use downwind sail for most recreational or touring kayaks
  • Low positioning on the deck of a kayak provides incredible stability and control
  • Center window allows paddler to see what is in front of them
  • Soft batten allows sail to be conviently stored on deck and deployed and stored while out on the water
  • Designed for winds in the 4-15 knot range (5-18 mph)
  • Accomodates most touring or recreational kayaks

Comments about Campmor Windpaddle Scout Sail:

No complaints for the manufacturer but mother nature could be more cooperative some days by blowing the right direction, still, when the wind is right, you can cover a lot of easy miles in a hurry.

Comments about Campmor Windpaddle Scout Sail:

I used to keep an umbrella in my kayak to use as a sail, and this is a similar concept. I tested the WindPaddle with both a kayak and canoe. When there's wind, you will sail! And when there's not wind, you will fight the sail to get it back down to the neat package it showed up as. I suggest some on-shore practicing to learn to rebundle the sail, or you may become a navigational hazzard! You do need something on deck to hook the bottom of the sail to. I look forward to getting more procificent with this.

Comments about Campmor Windpaddle Scout Sail:

I bought the sail based on its price and relative popularity, and it works just as advertised. Take about 5 minutes for the wrinkles to come out of the window once opened up, but I really like the sail. Visibility mis good enough.

Comments about Campmor Windpaddle Scout Sail:

I was able to connect this sail to the deck rigging of my boat in less than a minute, and was out sailing right away. In short order I understood how to capture the wind from behind me as the sail instantly launched. Weighs about what my pump weighs and I always sail with my pump. With the way the winds come up and then die where I paddle (The coves and bays of the New England area) I'll keep the sail coiled and ready to launch on deck to catch the puffs of wind going my way and eat my lunch while sailing.

The best advise I have is to learn the coiling or folding technique before launching. It's easy once you learn it, but learn it first.

This sail was a gift, and everyone I paddle with wants me to re-gift it to Them! No Way! It's a handy piece of gear that I'll be using years from now, as it has a life-time warranty.

Could this sail be used on a 12 foot Old Town Pack canoe? We recently paddled on Florida's coast and a sail would have been helpful.

This Windpaddle sail is not recommended for a 12 Ft. Old Town Canoe. This sail is designed to be used with kayaks.
