I have for the past 3 years been able to freeze up to 800 ml of liquid in the Tritan bottles with no breakage, only warpage as the ice expands. With these latest bottles, the bottoms of the bottles crack out when just freezing 500 ml of liquid. They are made of more brittle material. I am disappointed, as I thought I had a continued solution to day long ice water. Guess not.

Regardless of if I am at the gym, work or out on the AT, this bottle has been perfect. The width of the mouth is just right for my back pack filter when hiking or camping. When at home I have no problems fitting ice cubes in. I have owned four for a year and am getting more for my sports addicted kids. No after taste, easy to clean, fits in my car's cup holder.......perfect!

I am a Scout leader, and enjoy backpacking, hiking, camping, etc. Have been a fan of Nalgene bottles for years...the wide-mouth design sets the standard. They are easy to fill, fit every type of water filtration system I've ever used, sit upright and stable along the trail & in camp, etc, etc.

The "old" hard-plastic Nalgenes (yes, the ones with the BPA chemical) were truly indestructable! Working with teenage scouts, over the years, I witnessed virtually every type of abuse test imaginable, and NEVER saw one bottle break. This included throwing them off a cliff onto rocks below...the bottle held up.

These new Tritan bottles don't even hold up to, what I would consider, "normal" wear and tear. After the BPA scare, most of our group ran out and got these newer Tritan bottles as replacements. They seemed the same as the old ones, and still have all of the same design/size features I've always liked, but the material DOES AND WILL BREAK. Over the past year or so, I have now witnessed 3 different bottles with the Tritan material break. In all three cases, they were dropped onto a hard surface, However, I think this is something that should be expected to happen on a backpacking/camping/hiking trip. When you're several miles from the nearest water source, and relying on the strength of your water bottle to help keep you hydrated, and you have to witness your water spilling all over the ground...well, you start rethinking things very fast!

The 3 occassions I've witnessed were on three different days, involving three different scouts, so the evidence has been adding up.

The first broken bottle was when one boy threw a loaded pack (with Nalgene in the pocket) to another boy, who missed it, and the weight of the pack dropped on top of the bottle, as it landed on a large, flat rock. I chaulked this one up to being a freak accident, and figured it was the pack weight (maybe 25 lbs) that helped break the bottle.

The next one was on a separate trip, in chilly weather, where a boy dropped an open bottle out of his hands from waist height (maybe 3') straight down onto a flat, hard-packed trail below. The ground was hard from an overnight freeze, but there were no protruding rocks. The bottom completely cracked out.

The third instace was at the end of a trip, where a bottle, sitting on the floorboard of a minivan, rolled out of the open door and hit the concrete parking lot, and again the bottom cracked out. The bottle was mostly full, but only fell 12"-18".

In each instance, these bottles definately fell on something very hard, HOWEVER, they were NOT being abused.

Bottom line, I still like the design, the boys still prefer the look of the 'hard plastic' nalgenes & their bright/translucent colors over the 'soft plastic' ones, but unless you're going to be walking around over grass and carpet, I just don't trust them and always make sure there are other options being used.

I love these bottles, i really like the 32oz size,the wide mouth on it and dishwasher safe.carry it to work everyday, I drink lots of water so this one and another bottle I had earlier is carried to work everyday.Love the bright colors!

Always been a fan of the durability. One thing I never really could decide on is weather the cover strap being flexible and skinny was a good thing or not. Broken straps and lids are easily replacable, but is it durable enough? Can't decide.
