      Comments about Gerber Back Paxe:

This hatchet is OK but for a lighter weight product that a grandchild in 20 years or somebody else you don't even know will be using 100 years from now go with the made in the USA Estwing.

Cons to the Gerber: Feels cheap and is hard to take an edge.

      Comments about Gerber Back Paxe:

I bought this for my backpack because of the description, size, weight etc. I assumed BACK PAXE meant it was designed to fit in a back pack to save room, but with the very large plastic casing it comes with it is hard to save room.

The hatchet head measures 4 3/4" X 2 3/4" the casing you get (NO SHEATH) measures 6" X 6" X 1" and not completly enclosed. The design of the case is made to hang on a garage wall or elsewhere with two screw holes for attatching to a wall.

Other than that I am ok with the hatchet for what I wanted it for, and I would still reccomend it. If you want it in your backpack you will need to do somthing else for a cover or a sheath.

        Comments about Gerber Back Paxe:

Item description doesn't mention that entire handle is hollow.
Item description says sheath with belt hoop included. What you get is a big piece of hard plastic packaging that has no belt hoop. Even if it did, why would anyone carry a compact ax in a large plastic housing...

Used this for camping recently. It was very sharp and cut wood well. It wasn't good for splitting long pieces of wood, but was great for 12" and below. Planning on taking it backpacking. I think it will be worth it's weight.

I wanted a nice small backpacking axe. I definitely got what I wanted. If you're looking for a heavy duty camping axe, this isn't for you. If you're looking for light weight and compact, this is the ticket.

Works like advertised. I've only used it a few times on kayak trips, it worked well on small wood less then 2 inch. Haven't tried it on larger stuff but i think it will do fine.
