Comments about The North Face Waterproof Breathable Venture Rain Pants - Short 30" Inseam - Women's: I bought the pants for a 6 week program that I did in Montana, primarily for hiking in wet conditions. I wore the pants over my other clothes when it rained as well as for hiking through snow. The pants kept me very dry. However, I originally ordered a medium and they fit perfectly everywhere except for the waist. I returned them for a large, and while they fit in the waist, the legs are a bit baggy. Other than that I liked the pants, and the fact that they fold up into a small pouch, which is good for not taking up much space in a pack.

I would say for cold weather over long underwear would not be sufficient. These are just shells so they do not provide very much protection except for rain and snow. I would use them over a layer of long underwear and a 2nd layer like a micro fleece pant.Answered on 2/10/2011 by Steve from Campmor
