Some of the way was very full of scree, i had NO issues of items getting into my boots. Other hikers either had items get in their boots OR their gaiters were too hot and just soaked p sweat/water - these were breathable and worked great.

Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Outdoor Research Rocky Mountain High Gaiters - Men's: I'm a long time motorcyclist and bought these as "emergency" cold/wet weather gear - to pack on the bike and use in case of unanticipated cold or wet weather. Many times on a motorcycle the roads may be wet, and the water thrown up by the front wheel soaks the lower pants legs; also in semi-cold weather your shins get a lot of cold air. These gaiters look like they'll do the job, but they are sized small. Other reviewers commented on this, and I tried to "upsize" accordingly, but they're still small (I'm 6'3" and 225 lbs), but I believe they'll work, although I haven't field tested them as of now. The straps designed to buckle around the bottom of the boot are NOT long enough, which is not a problem for me since I don't really intend to be walking or skiing with them on, but most people probably will. Overall, I am "kind of" satisfied. Order large!

Cons Best Uses Comments about Outdoor Research Rocky Mountain High Gaiters - Men's: This is my second pair of OR Rocky Mtn High gaiters and so far they have done exactly what I wanted them to do. My first pair was made with Gortex and provided better protection from wet weather, however, this new pair with the treated pack cloth has done an excellent job of keeping me dry. I have had them out on a few off trail hikes and so far they have met my expectations for performance. They have kept me dry and protected my legs from the local brush and thorn covered vines.

The gaiter will help keep moisture out but will not act as a waterproof barrier. Water can come up between the gaiter and boot since the bottom of the gaiter is not sealed to the boot.Answered on 8/9/2011 by Steve from Campmor
