Comments about Outdoor Products Dragonfly External Frame Youth Pack:

I bought this pack for my 11 year old son to use for Scouts. We have done several backpacking trips and the pack works well. I wish it had better pockets for water bottles, but my son hasn't complained about it. Its a great starter pack for the money.

We were please with the price (6) unit's unfortunately the frame didn't hold up on two of six frames, breaking in the same place. I took the issue as being a mold issue from the manufacture from this weakness. The Scouts (11 yrs. old) that use these packs really enjoy them. As a leader, the packs will allow the Scouts to grow with these packs throughout his Scouting Adventures. Thank you for the opportunity to voicing my finding, and yes I'd recommend this pack to others.

Comments about Outdoor Products Dragonfly External Frame Youth Pack:

Bought this for my son for his first year as a boy scout. The zipper on one of the comparments snagged badly on some of the vinyl. That zipper has already separated and so the comparment is now compromised.

He will quickly have to learn how to pack his sleeping bag and foam pad so that they can be attached to the outside of the pack. The two middle compartments are too small for either item to be stored inside. That also means I'll probably have to purchase additional lighter weight (more expensive) items than we presently own in order to get more use out of this pack.

Comments about Outdoor Products Dragonfly External Frame Youth Pack:

I bought this for my 12 yr old son who became a scout this past spring. He was going to Boy Scout camp for a week this summer and the program said he needed to hike to a campsite for an overnight. Pack in and pack out. The price was excellent. The pack arrived and I found it to be better than I expected. I was able to adjust the size with only some difficulty. (minor) I packed it with a weeks worth of clothes for a 12 yr old Boy Scout at summer camp. Some of the zippers wanted to catch on the covers but easily came loose. It wasn't used as a pack for hiking so I can't say how that would work out but it "feels" like a good bargain and a solid piece of equipment.

                  A:

You can insert a hydration reservoir into the pack. It could use up to a 100 oz reservoir. This pack just is hydration ready so there is no outlet port for the tube or specific sleeve for the reservoir. You would have to gerry rig the tube through the zippered opening of the pack and you might get some condensation around the reservoir which may affect other items in your pack.

                  How To Fit a Backpack
When determining what size pack to buy, how tall you are is not nearly as important as your torso length. A short-legged person and a long-legged person may be exactly the same height, but require different sized packs.

To measure your torso length, you will need some assistance and a flexible measuring device like a tailor's tape. Have a friend measure along your spine from the seventh vertebra (the bump where your shoulder meets the neck) down to a point even with the iliac crest (the top of the hip-bones). The distance along your spine between those two points is your torso length.

When measuring for hipbelts, it is important to measure not the waist or where your pants ride, but in the center of your hipbone (1/2 inch below the top of the hips) where the hipbelt should be worn.

This info can also be found under the customer service link.

12 years and up. However check the torso length. Go up the side of your body to find the top of your hip. From this point draw a perpendicular line to the lower lumbar region of your spin that is at the same height as the top of your hip. From this point draw a line up your spine to the C-7 vertebra which is the most prominent vertebra that sticks out of the back of your neck when you touch your chin to your chest. The measurement between these 2 points is your torso length.
