    Comments about JanSport Boost Daypack:

I use my backpack like a "man purse" - I carry all sorts of little odds and ends that I'd rather have with me than not, on a day-to-day basis. My previous backpack (Jansport Odyssey - the older version) fulfilled that need with a lot of little places to stash things that this one lacks. This backpack has a ton of space, but the lack of compartmentalization makes less of it usable.

The Odyssey had that squishy honeycomb-plastic strap material that this one lacked, so I was concerned it would be a step back in comfort - but the opposite is true by far. Carrying the same weight, the Boost is far more comfortable. I think the sturdier material does a better job spreading the weight over a larger area.

I also was worried the horizontal compartment on the bottom wouldn't be useful - I was afraid it would be too easy for stuff to spill out of it, but that has not been the case.

The laptop area is fine - the way the backpack's forces are distributed, I don't worry about it being crushed if I'm carrying a heavy load.

The water bottle compartments are able to securely hold a 24-ounce bicycling water bottle. This is the first backpack I have ever seen about which I would say that (and one of my nagging annoyances about the Odyssey was that my water bottles kept falling out).

    Comments about JanSport Boost Daypack:

This backpack is well made and serves as my every day commuting-to-work bag. It is a bit big and bulky but I commute 3 hours a day and walk over 2 miles so it has to hold alot and be comfortable to carry. I have also used this for weekend trips and a 4 day hike on the Inca Trail. It held all my gear for temps from 30-70 degrees every day and I never noticed the extra weight.

          Comments about JanSport Boost Daypack:

I wanted a decent backpack for lugging books around between campuses as an adjunct faculty member. This bag is HUGE -- much bigger than I thought it would be. It has my prerequisites: two bottle/coffee holders, three main compartments (1. glasses, pens, sundries; 2. electronica, portable hard drives, small notebook; 3. student files/homework, paperwork) with a notebook sleeve (iPad); plus a quick-access phone pocket on the top; and a nifty pocket along the bottom that I have found extremely useful.
Although I was put off by the size, since the compartments can easily hold 17" laptops each and reaching for my files seems like dipping into Mary Poppin's bag, it's grown on my simply because it distributes the weight beautifully and wears extremely comfortably. My only complaint is with the obnoxious zipper pulls. They're cloth and about 2 inches long with plastic crossbars. I guess that's fine if you're using mittens or ski gloves, but what really bothers me is that because they are so long, they're constantly getting caught in the other zippers or closed into the other compartments. If I could remove them, I would.

How does this backpack compare to the traditional Jansport Superbreak backpack? Like how bigger in size is the Boost Daypack compared to the Superbreak? I'm planning on using it daily for college.

I'm looking for a backpack that will hold my 17.3 inch laptop comfortably. Is there extra room in the laptop compartment once the laptop is put inside or does it barely fit?

              A:

The Superbreak has a 25 liter capacity, whereas the Boost has a 37.7 liter. The Boost can only accommodate a 15" laptop.

The Odyssey is more of a hiking backpack instead of a book bag. The boost does not have a daisy chain for lashing gear onto the pack; does not has a hydration sleeve for a hydration reservoir and does not have a hip belt like the odyssey.

I am going to repeat Sue from San Francisco's question: What torso length does this pack fit? Shawn did not really answer her question. My mind is still doing cartwheels trying to understand where he was coming from. Why not answer the question? (I have been asking about this and why Campmor does not provide this info and have so far been ignored. Yet I am still looking to buy from you, but with this kind of customer service I just may soon move on and find another supplier).

Shawn meant to say that daypacks do not have specific torso sizes because they do not contain an internal frame that is adustjable.
