Comments about MSR Alpine 4 Pot Set:

This product is a an affordable and durable alternative for groups of campers travelling by canoe or doing drive-up camping. It takes up less space than multiple mess kits and is fairly durable. I generally use this set for back country canoe trips. I use the largest pot over the campfire, and the smaller pots over a stove or as bowls during meal prep.

Reviews which criticize the pots for being too thin should reconsider cooking methods and heat-source intensity rather than blaming burnt product on the pots. Reviews that criticize the pots for being too small should be dismissed (pot sizes are fully disclosed at the time of purchase).

Maintenance idea: pots used over an open fire will "carbon-up" - easiest way to clean them is in a self-cleaning oven. Fortunately, the mesh bag that comes with the set prevents carbon from rubbing off on other gear.

Minor criticism: the set of three pots comes with one pot holder, so it can be challenging to manage multiple pots at the same time. Extra pot holders can be purchased.

This set is a good investment for practical backpackers.

Comments about MSR Alpine 4 Pot Set:

This kit was bought to replace 10 year old pots. Most of the kit went into the trash on the way out of the campground. Everything that we cooked in the pans burned on the bottom. They do not conduct heat well. The pans are very thin with a large bump in the center of the bottom that makes stirring difficult and burning too easy. The ONLY thing that didn't burn in these pans was water. Not worth the money.

I used this set on a recent winter camping trip (mostly to melt snow) ant it worked great. I did cook a few meals with the med. size pot and it worked great on a white gas stove.

How is this a "4-pot" set? I only count 3. If you count the lids, then it seems like it would be a "6"-pot set.

4 does not designate 4 pots it designates 4 Liter. There are just 3 pots. The largest is a 4 Liter pot.
