Overall I was pleased with the fit of this bag but in the end I think I need to return it. Was planning on using it for a 4 day trip but I couldn't fit all the gear I normally take (and this year was pared down quite a bit). For fit my wife got me the small and it has great back support and was very comfortable. The problem is the pockets on the side are zippered and made of the same material as the pack. This means they don't stretch and when the pack is full you can't put anything in it. We hike to alpine lakes with the kids and i bring fishing gear and an archery set. With the poor pocket design and lack of convenient lashing points I had to take 25 year old REI pack. Sorry but this pack just isn't for me.

I bought and immediately used this pack on a 4 day hike in the White Mtns. Dad carried a lot for the kids... :-) I really liked the way the pack stabilized my 60 pound load. It felt tight to my back, and was comfortable. I wouldn't get this pack for light hiking, as it is pretty heavy on its own due to the solid frame and lumbar/hip structure.

This is my thrird Gregory backpack. My first was the Shasta and then the Whitney. Both are still in use by two of my three sons. That's built tough! My new Baltro proved worthy of it's name except for a maufacturing defect of one of the front zippers. Fortunately, the other zipper compensated so as not to ruin the trek (Philmont for 12 days)and Campmor is sending me a replacement.

I've used this pack while section hiking for a week at a time along the A. T. It's handled everything I've asked of it and 2 years later still looks new. The material is strong and does not rip. it feels great secured snug to my back and I don't even have to readjust it throughout the day. The zip out front makes retrieving items stored inside quick and easy without having to disturb the whole load. All in all, just a great pack!

I am an experienced backcountry backpacker and long-distance hiker with most of my time spent along the AT and the mountains of Virginia. I use this pack extensively through the cooler Winter months for its large load hauling capacity when I have a fair amount of cold-weather equipment added to my gear load. The organizaion of compartments make loading well organized and easily accessible. The suspension system is the most comfortable I've owned, with a very well built compression system that makes weight distribution and balance control excellent. The overall construction of the pack is outstanding; which is also it's only con, the pack weight is a pound or so higher than others similar in size and capacity. Personally, I'll haul the extra pound for the comfort, convenience, and durability of the pack's construction. My normal Winter load for 5 days in the backcountry comes in right at or just under 55lbs, and the Baltoro 75 hauls it beautifully.

The color is the only difference with the 2013 Baltoro's as compared to this 2012 version.
