  • Q:

I've seen some comments about the zippered sleeping bag compartment. Is that a compartment that opens up to the exterior or just an internal divider that splits up the main compartment?

At the bottom of the pack there is a horseshoe shaped zipper that gives you access toe the sleeping bag compartment. This gives you access to the sleeping bag compartment from the outside of the pack. On the inside of the pack is a upper and lower compartment separation that is able to be removed by un toggling.

  • Q:

The torso length is listed at 17-18 in. Is there any way to adjust it to 19-20 in. I am tall and fairly thin with a torso length of a bit over 19 in and a 30 in waist. I am having trouble finding a light weight pack that will fit.

You can wear this pack outside of the suggested torso range, however you will not get the proper support. The weight will be carried more on your shoulders than the hips since the spread between the shoulders and hips would have been exceeded boy your torso length. I looked around and was not able find a 50 L pack as light as this. Just make sure you do not carry a lot of weight because the support will not be there outside of the torso range.

Does this pack come with a hydration bladder, and if not how large of a bladder will it accommodate?

The Jansport Katahdin 50 does not come with a hydration bladder. It comes with an internal sleeve which will accommodate a 3-liter bladder.

  • Q:

Does this pack fit in all airplane overhead storage bins according to FAA regulations?

The maximum size carry-on bag for most airlines is 45 linear inches (the total of the height, width, and depth of the bag). The size of this bag is 29.5" x 9" x 14.5". Anything larger should be checked.

  • Q:

The weight is listed as 2.1 lbs for this pack, but the 60L is listed as 4.1 lbs. Is this accurate? Why is there a 2 lb difference between the 50L and 60L?
    Asked on 9/26/2013 by Brian

The accurate weight for the 50 liter pack is 2.5 lbs. There is more material and space in the larger pack which will make it slightly heavier.

Probably would not want to carry more than 45 lb.
