Works great

By Scouting guy

Comments about Eton Scorpion Multifunction Radio:

Looks like it will work great. I do wish, however, that it would charge another device straight from stored power. It appears you have to either be cranking or in direct sunlight to do that. Might be a pain if your phone needs a charge at night.

Thoughtful design

Pros

  • Good Looks
  • Rugged design
  • Thoughtful features

Cons

  • Caribiner location
  • No LWMWSW
  • Plastic crank
  • Under powered

Best Uses

  • Camping
  • Survival Emergency

Comments about Eton Scorpion Multifunction Radio:

The unit has some good design points and overall seems well made. However, there are some annoyances with the location of the clip - it seems to get in the way of antenna deployment or connecting accessories. The plastic crank would be nice to have as aluminum. The unit seems to be one of the best in it's category.

Comments about Eton Scorpion Multifunction Radio:

While a little heavy for long backpacking trips where every ounce counts, this is a quality, rugged product. Radio sound and reception is exceptional, water proof case is comfortable and easy to hold. The only thing I would have liked to see is a single solid loop instead of the clip. The clip is good for suspending from inside a tent, but not secure enough to hang from a backpack. A solid loop would have allowed for attaching a carabiner to secure it to a pack and it could have been exposed to the sunlight, charging as you hiked. That's the only improvement I would suggest. Very happy with this product.

The USB power outlet is the best thing, and the fact you can crank or solar charge it is awesome. plus its small and light. I have used a goal zero guide ten via the usb outlet to charge batteries.

        Something for the Survival Bag

        By Artymoose

        from Sacramento, CA

        Verified Buyer

        Pros

        • Compact
        • Digital
        • Dynamo
        • Solar

        Cons

        • No SAME NOAA alerts
        • Not 2-way

        Best Uses

        • Survival gear

Comments about Eton Scorpion Multifunction Radio:

I was looking for a radio for my survival bag. Like everything that goes in the bag it should have multiple uses. This is a radio, flashlight, solar and dynamo charger for other electronics. I felt that being digital was a step up from the FR-160. I have FRS walkie-talkies for 2-way communications, but they don't pick up NOAA. I may end up upgrading to 2-way marine radios. Unfortunately, I haven't found any that come with solar or dynamo charging.

I saw the previous question, but I think it didn't have the correct answer. Assuming you have all the right plugs for your phone, how much cranking do you have to do for how much phone time.

              Thanks!

The volume is pretty good. That said the higher the volume the shorter the run time until you need to crank it again.

The Eton Scorpion would not have the best AM reception....for the best AM reception, you would need one with an antenna, for example the Eton M400 Grundig Radio, item no. 88891.
