I bought this radio for my husband, who wanted it because of the cranking feature. No more batteries! He will keep it in his truck and use it for emergencies.

We will use it in our emergency store to be used in case of an earthquake taking out power. We were able to buy USB connectors to recharge our cell phones. They cost more than the radio!

Of course we will not know how good it is till we need it, which hopefully we will never find out!

I bought this for power outages, which we in the sticks get alot! Turns out, I love being able to flip on the weather radio and getting current weather and forecasts right away. Much fast then powering up the PC/iPod or waiting for the radio DJ to get around to the weather.

I find this little emergency radio to be worth much more than what it costs. It's a well made and sturdy piece of equipment. I liked it so much, I purchased some for friends. Just wish the cell phone charger allowed for longer talk times for the amount of cranking needed.

                      A:

Each cell phone has it's own cable that is compatible with the phone. The charging port on this radio is a USB. As long as the charging cable for the cell phone is a USB it will work with the Eaton. If it is not then you can get the appropriate charging cable for your phone from Eaton.

Does this radio have the "alert" function or do you have to turn it on and tune it in to hear emergency broadcasts?

My weather radio automatically turns on (from "standby mode:) and sounds a loud alert (will wake you up) if there is a hazardous situation--but this one says nothing about having the "alert" function!
