Comments about High Sierra Explorer 55 Internal Frame Pack:

Good pack at this price. Best suited for 3-5 day treks.

Would have been nice to have a few more pockets on the outside, or additional places to attach gear externally. But, for the price, no real complaints.

A great pack for someone just getting started.
Its a little bit bulky and the straps sometime slip and the pack becomes uncomfortable.

But other than that its a great pack an worth the eighty dollars.

Comments about High Sierra Explorer 55 Internal Frame Pack:

I bought this pack two years ago and it's still in a perfect condition. This being my first pack I cannot really compare it to anything else but I can say that in term of storage, the High Sierra 55 is great. There's plenty of room in or out the bag, plus it comes with a rain coat! My sleepingbag is very bulky (too bulky!) but I can still strap it with the bottom straps without having to put it IN the bag and lose vital space for other stuff.

At first the numerous straps can seem puzzling but they all have their utilities to adjust to your personnal use.

The only two LITTLE cons (they don't ruin the bag) are the general comfort and the adjustment of the waist belt. Like I said, this is my first pack but I feel that it could've been more comfortable (even if you can walk more than 8-10hrs with this on your back!). Having a little waist, I have to tighten the belt a bit more than average but at one point it become very hard to tighten it more so you can take that into account if you are a bit skinny like me.

So overall, great for storage, great for short/long hikes, OK for the weight and OK for the comfort.

Good use. Held up well with lots of packing and unpacking, being thrown into large moving trucks for a camp/cycle week long ride.

One complaint; the top does not pull down tight enough, even when the back was full.

There is a divider between the top compartment and the lower sleeping bag compartment. This divider can be removed which will allow bulkier winter bags to be carried.

To determine if this pack will fit you, you would need to measure your torso length.
How to measure your torso length?
Have a friend measure your back. Stand with your back to them and your hands on your hips like you are scolding someone. Your thumbs will point to a stop on your lower spine. Start from this point and measure up to the C-7 vertebrae, which is the one that sticks out of the back of your neck when you touch your chin to your chest. The measurement between these 2 points is your torso length.

The smallest this packs hip belt will draw down to is 34". With a 29" waist this will not secure to your hips.

The The North Face Terra 55 Youth Pack would have a hip belt that will fit your waist size

The torso range on this pack makes it suitable for shorter torsos. Additionally the capacity of 55 Liters makes this a smaller capacity pack.
