Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

I took this pack to Philmont. It was great, and my brother had the same one and thought the same thing. The only trouble is it's a little hard to get the sleeping bag in the pouch at the bottom, and that's a very minor flaw. Other than that, it's pretty much perfect.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

Were backpacking through Europe and this bag is just right for our trip, its light weight and its Opti fit feature worked well as we weren't sure of our torso length and we will be switching carrying it. Only negative thing to say about the bag are its single side zippers which is hard to lock with little padlocks as we are going to use it mostly for travelling.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

I got this pack on sale and so far it has been awesome. It holds weight the was its supposed to and packs very easily. It works good for 1-5 day trips and is really comfortable. A lot of reviews say the sleeping bad compartment is small but my Ledge Scorpion fits with a lot of room to spare. The only things I don't like about this pack is the lack of pockets and no bottom straps to hold sleeping rolls etc.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

First time using hiking bags and I found it surprisingly comfortable. I was expecting it to be a pain but the hip support was great and everything was very adjustable. Bag was also light compared to others of the same capacity. Bonus points as this means I can share my bag with my family. My non-positive feedback is the lack of more pockets. I found the one inside too deep - when the bag is full, it is impossible to access this pocket. Perhaps add another 1 or 2 smaller ones above this? Side access was very convenient. Would have been ideal if the other side had an access point as well. Would have liked that a rain/ transport cover was included with the purchase; I had to buy one from Deuter. Overall a good and sturdy bag! Will buy it again!

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

This seemed like a pretty good pack. My major problem with it is the sleeping bag compartment is way too small. I have a pretty normal REI 15 degree bag and could not get it to fit without undoing the baffle that separates it from the main compartment. So it really ate into my storage. Also, and keep in mind I'm new to backpacking, the waist and shoulder harnesses seemed a bit light for me, causing my shoulders to start burning under the strain after about an hour on the go. I switched to a Deuter AirContact 75+10. Haven't had a chance to comment on that yet, but the sleeping bag fits!

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Internal Frame Pack:

I have a pretty standard 15-degree sleeping bag. The bag compartment was too small and I had to unbutton the baffle to get it to fit. This really cut into my storage space. I replaced it with a Deuter AirContact 75+10.
Also, the waist strap wasn't beefy enough and put more stress on my shoulders than I would have liked.

            A:

The key thing to getting a pack to fit correctly is to order in accordance to torso length. To measure your torso length: Have a friend measure your back. Stand with your back to them and your hands on your hips like you are scolding someone. Your thumbs will point to a stop on your lower spine. Start from this point and measure up to the C-7 vertebrae, which is the one that sticks out of the back of your neck when you touch your chin to your chest. The measurement between these 2 points is your torso length.

The Terra 65 has torso ranges as follows:
            Med 16.in-19.in, (40364 cm -48.26 cm)
            Lg 18.in- 21.in (45.72 cm - 53.34 cm)
If the torso range is too short for the person carrying the pack then a lot more of the packs weight will be carried by the shoulders instead of the hips.

For your waist at 32"- 33" and the torso at 18-19 I would order a M since the waist belt would be properly sized for your waist.

        • Q:

My son is a 12 year old boy scout who goes camping 1 - 2 times per month year round. No backpacking specific trips for another year or 2. He has a 16in torso now and of course he is about to hit his growth spurt... We want him to have a quality pack that he will have for several years. Is the Terra 55 or 65 best suited for him? I've seen both and the 55 looks small. Thanks

It sounds like a M will fit your son torso length wise. As for the waist though the M(has a range from 32-40). All the Terra's have the same waist belt range. You may want to look at the Kelty Coyote 80 Internal Frame Pack. It has a lower range of 30" for the waist belt.

I'm a 5'2 female looking at the terra 65 and terra 55 packs. I know the terra 55 is specific to women, but would the terra 65 in a size medium be just as comfortable with the opti fit adjustable torso? I want something a little bigger than the terra 55, but want a good fit as well.

            A:

The Terra 65 is too long for a 5'2". You may want to look at the Women's Terra 55 which has a torso length of 15"- 18.5" The best way to determine fit with a pack is to measure your torso length.
Have a friend measure your back. Stand with your back to them and your hands on your hips like you are scolding someone. Your thumbs will point to a stop on your lower spine.
