Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter Replacement Ceramic Element: I use this the MSR Miniworks filter quite a bit, taking it on group backpacking trips. I'm usually the one to filter water for the group (anywhere from 2-5 peeps). The water quality I usually find on my outings is heavily laden with minerals, but otherwise very clean.

Hello, How much water will it filter until it needs to be replaced? I understand it is to be scrubbed clean every so often, but is there a point at which it can no longer function regardless of cleaning? And at how many gallons would you arrive at that point?

The ceramic element can last up to 2000 liters. Filter-life ratings are based on best-case scenarios because the testing is performed with clean lab water. Generally you can assume that your filter will last between 50 and 100% of the rated life.Answered on 12/10/2012 by Anonymous
