    Comments about MSR Superfly Stove:

This is a very good little canister stove. It boils water faster than all my old liquid fuel stoves. It is better for actual cooking than many of the stoves with a concentrated burner. This one is a wide ring. If you only boil water, you might as well spend less and carry a wee bit less weight and get a pocket rocket. I have the model with the built in lighter. The first one didn't work, but was replaced with one that does work, and it works very well. I did a cold start test with this stove. I let it outside in 24°F for 1/2 hour, then put it in the freezer for 1/2 hour. The piezzo lighter started the stove first push. The flame was weaker in this cold, but was still serviceable.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is not the fault of the stove. I am not a huge fan of canisters. They are expensive for what you get. You never know how much is in them after one use without weighing them on an accurate scale. That means you will usually have to carry more than one even on short trips, negating any weight advantages of canister stoves. It also starts to burn weaker in the cold weather. I prefer my white gas and kerosene stoves. No canisters to carry out and dispose. You always know how much is in them, and they burn just as hot in heat or cold.

        Comments about MSR Superfly Stove:

I like that it has 4 pot support arms, making it more stable for larger pots. I got a stabilizer support for under the fuel canister, and have used pots up to 5 quarts, with no problems. The larger burner distibutes heat well, which I prefer for actual cooking beyond boiling water. My favorite pans are broader than they are tall, which seem to heat up faster than the tall ones. I've used it for ten years with no problems. The piazo ligher I got for it makes lighting a snap.

                Comments about MSR Superfly Stove:

A fine stove for a 4 liter pot, and for boiling water for a group of four. The larger, and heavier pot, can save weight over everyone bringing their own smaller pot, stove, and fuel canisters. Originally I had a little 40 oz pot. That didn't work very well, the flames shoot out and up the sides, taking forever to boil. Also get the electric starter, it makes it 3 times easier to light!
