Best Uses Comments about Oil Insert for UCO Candle Lantern: Adjusting the wick properly was a bit difficult. It arrived with perhaps 1/4-inch of wick. It produced so much smoke that it built little stalactites of carbon on the top of the lamp. Once the wick was cut so that is was flush with the top of the wickholder, visible smoke ceased, but it still produces too much smoke for use in a tent or on a boat or in a house.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Oil Insert for UCO Candle Lantern: it works as advertised. it doesn't actually lock into the led base but it does fit and it does work with it. just be careful not spill oil down the sides as there is small holes that will allow oil to come into contact with batteries. all i had to do was wipe them down and verything was fine. i just like to have as many options as possible.

Comments about Oil Insert for UCO Candle Lantern: I returned a leaking UCO Insert for a replacement and it does not leak. If you do get a leaky one, clean the wick and chamber with alcohol to remove the paraffin before returning it.

Best Uses Comments about Oil Insert for UCO Candle Lantern: I filled the oil insert with paraffin lamp oil when it arrived, adjusted the wick, and lit it. It immediately began to leak where the aluminum wick holder joins the plastic lid. Heat from the flame drew up the oil and a small puddle formed on the lid within one minute and began to leak down the side of the insert-filling up the lantern base. I'm exchanging it to see if it's a fluke.

Comments about Oil Insert for UCO Candle Lantern: I have used the Uco lantern for years. This is a much cheaper and cleaner alternative to the long burning candles. The lantern requires some cleaning after use of candles, this unit eliminates that as well as the warm up time for best light with candles. It will flicker after a few minutes, then it's at full brightness. I'll get 3-4 hours of excellent light with about an ounce of fuel, which is readily available. Use liquid paraffin only.
