We use these 7 gallon water jugs for a lemonade concession business. They work well for our purpose.
Don't store more than two high and upright as they can leak. Use some teflon tape on the threads to improve the seal and they well work just fine.
Free shipping bought 8 of them. Have 14 of them total.

Comments about Reliance 7 Gallon Aqua-Tainer:

We got this to try out for consideration in long-term storage. Our first few uses were camping and they worked great. They hold 7 gallons instead of the more common 5 gallons, and they are easier to pack/transport.

Probably the best feature is the stow away spout. The treads are cut very well and didn't leak in either position.

The material is a little lighter than I expected, and I probably wouldn't stack over 2-3 high.

          So far, very satisfied.

            This container can become brittle!

            By Arizona Hunter

            from Kingman, AZ

Comments about Reliance 7 Gallon Aqua-Tainer:

I have 3 of these containers. They were my absolute favorites until this morning when I went to put one in my jeep and it made some crackling noise. I pushed on the top with my thumb and it went right thru the top of the container... right thru the blue plastic.

I wondered what made this plastic get brittle so I looked it up. As near as I can tell from the research I did, it was probably the temperature extremes. I kept it outside but out of the sun. It has been out there 1 - 3 years. I love the design and the fact that is bpa free... but I would keep them out of weather extremes and check them periodically if you are using them for long term water storage.

            Best Uses

            • Emergency supply
            • Long Term Water storage
            • Reduce gallon plastics

Comments about Reliance 7 Gallon Aqua-Tainer:

Great for long term/emergency water storage, saves storage space with stackability, and reduces the purchase and disposal of store bought plastic gallon water jugs.
Only complaint I have is that 1 of 5 purchased has a cracked spigot knurl, which results in leaking from the cap the moment it is turned onto it's side for dispensing. This seems to be the weak point of the container, otherwise a great product. Buy a few, store up some emergency water and know that you're good for a few days.

Someone asked if this container could be used for long term water storage and the answer given was per the FEMA site. That site indicates to use "food-grade" containers. Is this considered a "food-grade" container. Do you recommend this container be used for long term water storage if the container is first sterilized per the FEMA site?

This is food grade polyethylene and would work for long term storage. That said I would freshen the water on a regular basis as a best practice.

Would these containers be appropriate for longer term water storage (hurricane and other preparedness) where water may be stored for 1-2 years? Should water stored this long have disinfectants like bleach added to fight bacteria, or will containers protect against that?

                From FEMA:
                How Should I Store Water?

To prepare safest and most reliable emergency supply of water, it is recommended you purchase commercially bottled water. Keep bottled water in its original container and do not open it until you need to use it.

Observe the expiration or “use by” date.

If You are Preparing Your Own Containers of Water

It is recommended you purchase food-grade water storage containers from surplus or camping supplies stores to use for water storage. Before filling with water, thoroughly clean the containers with dishwashing soap and water, and rinse completely so there is no residual soap. Follow directions below on filling the container with water.

If you choose to use your own storage containers, choose two-liter plastic soft drink bottles – not plastic jugs or cardboard containers that have had milk or fruit juice in them. Milk protein and fruit sugars cannot be adequately removed from these containers and provide an environment for bacterial growth when water is stored in them. Cardboard containers also leak easily and are not designed for long-term storage of liquids. Also, do not use glass containers, because they can break and are heavy.

If storing water in plastic soda bottles, follow these steps
Thoroughly clean the bottles with dishwashing soap and water, and rinse completely so there is no residual soap.Sanitize the bottles by adding a solution of 1 teaspoon of non-scented liquid household chlorine bleach to a quart of water. Swish the sanitizing solution in the bottle so that it touches all surfaces. After sanitizing the bottle, thoroughly rinse out the sanitizing solution with clean water.
