It's a lightweight but heavy duty plastic shovel with a telescopic, durable metal shaft for easy storage. Best Uses Comments about Ledmark TrekMate Telescopic Snow Shovel: I ordered two of these for an overnight snow backpack. While we were building our snow kitchen, a screw fell out of one saw's handle and was lost in the snow... First useless shovel. Then one of my students tried to lift a heavy block to hand it off to another "snow bricklayer." The shovel broke... Second useless shovel. Good thing we had also towed two metal Voile shovels on our sled! Ledmark plastic shovels are simply not meant for snow camping! Like they say, "You get what you pay for."
