You can actually USE the illumination from this battery lantern. The legs lift it above th surface enough that the resulting light pattern is completely usable. You can play cards, read, eat, etc. at the table with this lantern even at a low setting. It is also great that you can hang it off a lanyard.

There are brighter lanterns which give off light that's not useable at a table. I had some super bright lanterns that were actually useless!

Light enough to compete with candle lanterns. And capable of brighter light. Gives a nice light when the power goes out. So much so, that when I put it on the kitchen table the first time, my wife said "I want one too."

It is a lantern though, and will throw light back into your face if you hold it in front of it to light your way. But it also is great in the tent or hammock at night. It can be adjusted so it doesn't do as much damage to your night vision as some flashlights do.

Definitely getting one for my wife! I don't want her taking mine.

Appealing spaceship design, pretty lightweight. This little guy found many uses on our recent cycling/camping tour of Iowa. Every night it hung in our tent with a soft, friendly light. Then, on a night with a shower but no power, the folding legs were perfect on a countertop. Folds up to about soda can size. It's plastic but seems pretty durable, no wear or tear after luggage tossed about. No downpours this year so unable to test water resistance.

I saw this lantern in a store and had to have it! I ordered it from this site because it was cheaper here. I love how bright and small this lantern is. It is perfect for inside or outside of a tent and is easy to pack. I have not taken it on a camping trip yet so I can't speak to it's durability or battery life. So far I am very pleased with this purchase, though!

Bought this for hammock camping, backpacking, and car camping. When lights went out at home, I reached into my camping gear and pulled it out for emergency lighting. My wife was using a flashlight. When she saw how good the light was from this she said, "I want one too!" Told her it was the only one I had. She told me I better get some more then. Yes, it is that nice of a lantern. Hangs nicely from tarp ridge line when hammock camping. Light weight. I usually use it on the dimmest setting. Definitely worth having.

Perfect for car camping. Bought two. They will go on dining table, and afterwards one will go into tent. Also take when night fishing. Will reserve my liquid fuel lanterns for additional light during emergencies -- in SoCal there is always one around the corner.

a size of a coke can when collapsed. Feels like high quality. Press on the power button and the light will continuously dimmer. Not a super bright lantern but good enough for a tent or a camp table

The product description is pretty spot-on. This lantern is great for small groups (like 4 people at a picknick table), perfect for tents. You could take it backpacking, but it's not "ultra light" by any means - about the size and weight of a can of soda. My favorite feature is the fold-down legs. They're really stable, but no fat base making it weird to pack.
