Comments about GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Percolator:

Having had it with "Drip" disposalable coffee makers I decided to try a perk pot like I remember from my childhood. I'm a cranky old guy but I can only praise the quality of this outstanding coffee pot. Now what might initally seem a down side is that it takes time to make the coffee. On my stove to bring to boil: 15 minutes, then turned down to perk for another 15 minutes. So in the morning here is what I do: set the timer to 30 minutes and go do something appropriate to early morning rising, keeping an eye on the approaching 15 min. mark. Once we starting getting a boil as evidenced by perks in the clear knob I turn down the heat to what I've found gives me the right amount of gentle perks. I let the dogs in and feed them, make toast, let the cat out. Try to remember just what it was my wife told me to do....and the timer bell rings.
The more I make coffee in this wonderful pot the smoother the process becomes. And my stars the coffee is wonderful!!
There is nothing to fail or wear out on this pot or any place where dirt/gunk can lodge that you can't reach. Buy it once and you're done, no more throw-a-way coffee pots! If the electricity fails in a winter storm, no problem get out your camping stove and soon you will enjoy a great cup of coffee!

Comments about GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Percolator:

I hated drip coffee makers. You can't clean them properly and coffee is disgusting. This perk makes great coffee but nothing beats my conical maker. It makes excellent coffee. You need to spend extra for whole beans and grind them yourself. I don't perk anymore I use this pot to boil water. This is a very nice percolator. But 'Bety' on chat told me in caps that the knob was glass...WELL-IT'S NOT!

Comments about GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Percolator:

I am from the drip coffee generation - the generation sandwiched between the coffee perculator generation and the Starbucks generation (which has now become the French Press generation).

After trying perculated coffee from a stainless steel pot, I have to ask why we went away from perculator coffee in the first place, yes, yes, I understand all the theory about tannins and blah, blah, blah. However, last year, I was having coffee with my 80+ year old friend who made coffee for us in her 1960 vintage stainless chrome perculator coffee pot. (yes, she was making coffee in the days when WWII was raging). WOW, that was good coffee!

So, I bought the GSI stainless perculator. WOW this makes good coffee. I now think that passing the boiling coffee over the beans a few times actually pulls out more coffee taste and a more enjoyable range of flavor notes.

BTW, the stainless GSI coffee maker is better than the aluminum varieties. Aluminum coffee pots seem to change the coffee. So, stick with the stainless pots and gear.

You don't need filter paper either. The GSI perculator includes the internal filter hardware (metal) which does a surprisingly good job of keeping the grounds out of the coffee - use regular grind.

Try it. Surprise yourself and your friends with how good perculated coffee really is.

BTW, GSI quality is very good and their customer service is remarkable.

Comments about GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Percolator:

I have the nine cup one. I've had it for over ten years, it goes on at least two trips a year.

The glass knob I've kept stored inside in bubble wrap when not in use. It's held up.

I did loose the pin holding the lid on, on my first outing long long ago. Wire works, but the lid comes up easy during ligh brewing, for longer brewing (Stronger coffee) the lid needs held down.

I've only had one pot not have grounds in it. I wish the basket locked together somehow.

Otherwise it always makes a good pot of coffee, even with user error. (Remind other campers to keep handle away from flame, it can melt.)
