Comments about Optimus Crux Backpacking Stove: this thing is great !! best stove i have used yet dont think ill ever have to buy another as long as this one holds up only the years to come will tell
Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Optimus Crux Backpacking Stove: This stove didn't work at all out of the box. Very little gas appeared to be getting through the stove. I could not light it. I swithed to the Soto 1D-R and it worked great with the same fuel canister. I really wanted this stove to work since its so compact. One other thing: The pot holders don't lay flat. A pot placed on top is balanced on 3 tiny points of contact.

Comments about Optimus Crux Backpacking Stove: We used this stove on a 3 day backpacking trip in Yosemite. It performed wonderfully. In my opinion it is as stable as larger propane bottle style stoves. It is incredibly lightweight and compact, yet sturdy. You do need to tend to the temperature control as you cook. As the amount of fuel in the canister decreases, you need to adjust the valve open to compensate for the lower pressure in order to maintain a steady flame. This process seems reasonable and is really only needed every few minutes. Basic monitoring whilst cooking should suffice.

Comments about Optimus Crux Backpacking Stove: Yes, it's a bit unstable. However, if you purchased this it's likely that you were attracted to the fact that it's compact and lightweight...and cool! The flame is also a bit too localized, which is fine for boiling water, but otherwise results in substantial burning to whatever's in the center of the pot/pan. Still, plenty powerful, easy to use and compact.

Comments about Optimus Crux Backpacking Stove: Haven't bought a stove since 1985 (whisperlite). Boils water for a meal in 1 minute or two. One of the smaller tanks lasts all weekend. Love it.

Q:
where do you buy fuel?1 answer
A:
Fuel would have to be purchased at a local outdoor supply store. Specifically I could not give you a name of a particular store or vendor.Q:
Can you explain the difference between this stove and the Crux Lite?1 answer
A:
The weight savings is small between the Crux and Crux Lite. The difference is that the Crux has a pivot that allow the burner head to fold flat. the Crux Lite does not have this option thus a slight weight savings.Q:
Does this stove fold up to fit under the smaller fuel canisters?1 answer
A:
No this was not designed to pack under the fuel canister, however this is not a perfect fit.Q:
