This blender worked well for crushing ice cubes for river-ritas! Smaller chunks of ice and cubes were easier to blend than the the larger chunks we broke off of our block ice. The bottom gasket between the blender cone and the base holding the blades can herniate, so make sure that gasket is seated well, before tightening it. The cranking action is fairly violent, so make sure you have someone holding the river table or whatever surface you have clamped on to. Cheers!

Took it to a hotel to make a smoothie. Worked great, but the high speed is very noisy. Great product for an unplugged kitchen or in a power outage. Very useable and not at all hard to crank.

This blender is pretty much what I was looking for. I am pleased with my purchase. There were only two surprises that other people should be aware of going in. The major one being that the plastic the pitcher is made out of is flimsy. I'm pretty sure it is described as "lexan," which I don't think it is unless it is just really thin. The other issue is the noise. This I am really OK with because all blenders are loud. I was just hoping the hand cranked style would be more quiet. That being said, the slower gear is pretty quiet, it is just the high speed operation that creates a significant noise. I think other people like me who want a way to blend bananas, and other fruits and veggies, in places where the grid doesn't reach, will enjoy this blender.

I bought it to make fruit smoothies. Its sturdy construction makes it a bit heavy for backpacking, but fine for a roadtrip. It doesn't quite chop apple up as finely as an electric blender, but the pieces are easily swallowed without having to chew. And the operation gives you a decent workout.

I love my hand crank blender, but there IS a trick to it.
1. affix it to your counter or breadboard or you will work too hard.
2. Use the upper shaft first, and just work it back and forth, don't bother with full circles. That's how I initially break down my frozen fruit for smoothies.
3. Then, switch to the lower shaft, and make everything smooth.

I am ready to sell off my kitchenaid blender! I blend smoothies, vegetables in hot soup, etc. The smoothies take about 3 minutes from freezer to cup.
