Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: Easy to use, ready to go in seconds! Improves taste and color somewhat , but to acceptable levels. I've been enjoying the outdoors for over 25 yrs, and would not buy any other filter brand.

Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: I bought the Katadyn Hiker Pro after much research. I had a First Need filter for 20 years and was happy with it until recently when it failed an integrity test for no apparent reason. That was scary knowing that the First Need filter seemed to work perfectly but somehow the filter matrix got cracked inside and was no longer filtering the water properly. I knew several people who had a Hiker Pro filter and I liked its favorable reviews on several websites so I bought it. My concerns with it were its pumping speed compared to the First Need. I really didn't notice much difference in the field. The Katadyn even seems to pump easier. I do like how the First Need connects directly to the water bottle so you can use both hands to pump but I fixed that by using a bottle holder that clips to my belt. I tried just setting the bottle down but it kept falling over as I suspected it would. I do love the adapter that allows you to pump directly into a camel back. Pros

Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: Loved it's ease of use, compactness, lightness. Can't rate it's use with cloudy or dirty water as we used it in clear, mountain lakes.

Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: This is a great water filter, it's easy to use, and it pumps water fast. Great filter to have for backpacking, as it's small and lightweight to pack.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: I used this on a backpacking trip on the AT. It filtered quickly, it was easy to use, and the water always tasted great! The quick-connect system worked very well with our water bladders. I like the size, too...compact. I know there are lighter, smaller means of treating water, but I felt the Katadyn gave me great tasting water and a lot of confidence about drinking.

Comments about Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter: First off, I bought this for a camping/canoe trip to the Boundary Waters in MN with my three kids and wife. The water there isn't dirty nor does it have a lot of junk in it. At first I was impressed with the unit, easy to use, easy to pump, great taste but then we had issues. The pump became very hard to pump and was as slow as slow could be. We filled 6 quart bottles about five times a day and by the end of the trip, I didn't have much good to say about it. Maybe there is something wrong with it or maybe I expected too much from it, but again, I bought it on Campmor's recommendation. I'm not real happy with it.

I bought the pur hiker and I understand the new Hiker Pro filter will fit my devise. How long will the filter last? Mine is 16 years old but hasn't been used much. is it time to buy a new one?1 answer
A:
Your Hiker is a PUR. I have a Pur circa the same age as yours and I use the Hiker Pro cartridge in it and it works well, except for the little inconvenience of keeping a little water to act as a priming of the pump.Q:
Does this Hiker Pro have a larger pore filter than the Hiker? The specs for the Hiker say it is .2 and the specs for the Hiker Pro say .3. Is the .2 just a misprint, or did the old Hiker actually have a better filter than the new Hiker Pro?1 answer
A:
Actually it is quite the opposite. The Hiker Pro will filter out smaller particles than the Hiker filter. The Pro also comes with a self cleaning kit. The Hiker Pro is an upgrade to the Hiker. The replacement cartridge for the Hiker Pro fits the Hiker filter essentially making it the same as the Hiker Pro.Q:
1- Does the Hiker Pro filter out viruses? If not, do any of your filters do so?1 answer
A:
1. The only filter certified as a purifier which is the standard for viral water contamination is the First Need water purifier item # 81249. Besides this filter you would need a chemical treatment to remove viruses ranging from portable aqua to the miox water purifier by MSRQ:
