Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Filter: Used this filter for a Boyscout hiking trip on the AT. After setting up the filter the guys quickly ditched the nasty iodine treatment. This filter is so easy to use. Just fill it up, hang it up and let gravity do the work.

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Filter: We used this filter system in your typical mountain lake. The lake was a little murky, without a ton of debris. The filter worked terrific, setup was also easy. The water tasted better than expected. In fact I ended up drinking the filtered water more than the water we hauled up from home. Best base camp filter I've used as long as you have relatively easy access to the water (i.e you wouldn't need to pump it)

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Filter: great for backpacking with a large group of Scouts. Much faster than pumps and less to carry. A little bulky to pack but you only need one for a group of 10 or twelve. Don't forget to carry parachute cord to hang it from a tree.

Our desert RV park water system has had multiple water problems with sometimes murky water. Set up was easy, hanging the filter bag on a towel rack in the bathroom, after the initial 2 gallons run through the water was great collecting great tasting water in a spare water bottle. Be patient with the first few gallons, they do run slow but the water you will get is better than buying bottled water.

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Filter: Have used one of these for four years -- approximately 60 person days, filtering about 2 gal. per person per day. That equals roughly 120 gallons. The filter got quite slow on the last couple of gal. but improved somewhat after cleaning the pre-filter. Hanging the bag as high as possible does make a big difference in flow rate. Have ordered a new cartridge. It sure beats pumping, although I always have my pump filter as a backup. On our last canoe trip I discovered that the large plastic coffee containers from Maxwell House and (I think) Folgers are just big enough to hold the Base Camp unit and make a very good water scoop.

I suspect that the clips are breaking because people are hanging on a nail or other small diameter hanging point. I have this filter and secure it over a beam and have never had a problem with the clip releasing on me.Answered on 7/27/2011 by Steve from Campmor
