Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter: Works great as a base camp water filter. A little heavy for ultra light backpacking, but sure beats iodine or filter straws. Slower than hand pump filters(gravity does the work) but a lot less effort is used to filter the water. Fellow campers who have all used pump filters were impressed and have put the Katadyn on their wish list.

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter: Took this to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness last week and used it to filter water from the lake we camped on...the water went through quickly the first time, but then processed very slowly with successive uses. That said,the water tasted TERRIFIC and we simply made sure we started the filtering process early and swapped out Nalgene bottles and pots throughout the day to fill them. Nice not to have to pump.

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter: Contrary to other commenters, my experience has been that the gravity system is faster than a (ceramic) pump filter. It's also nice not to have to squat by a creek and sweat for ten minutes. I have used the Basecamp for three seasons, and experienced no clogging or leaking. As others have noted, it is not very compactible, although it is no heavier than most pump filters

I used it on a 3day camping\ hiking trip. just fill it,hang it and enjoy filtered water with no pumping. there was five adults on the camp site that used the water provided by the bag and we only hade to refill it three times. packs up small so no to take up precious space in your pack. awesome product hands down!

Comments about Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter: Used in the Boundary Waters. It started to plug up while filtering the first bag of water. I brought a back up filter element and it also was plugged by day 4. Buy the sawyer or platypus if you are going to use where tanin exists in the water. They can be backflushed this unit cannot be.

I suspect that the clips are breaking because people are hanging on a nail or other small diameter hanging point. I have this filter and secure it over a beam and have never had a problem with the clip releasing on me.Answered on 7/27/2011 by Steve from Campmor
