Used to use these 20 yrs. ago in the French Foreign Legion on manoeuvres.
Happy to find them again as I'm ready to move away from gas cannisters. How much is left in the cannister? Heavier, bulkier. And I have a huge collection of partially-used ones which serve no purpose.
Throw a tablet in the foldable stove,coffee or water for rations/freeze-dried foods ready in minutes. Used them everywhere. Dead of winter also and never a problem, just shield them from the wind as you would any stove. I believe they're now standard NATO-issue-we had them in the commissary and everyone used them (except the officers who expected us to make coffee for them!!)

The Esbit is simple to use and light weight, BUT has important negatives.The fuel cubes are hard to light, so you need to bring a lighter to supplement your match supply. Also, it generates skimpy heat, so you need a windscreen for sure. All this adds to the weight you thought you were saving. Also, it blackens the cookpots.

It's easy to use and it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Just open it up, place a fuel cube and cook. Doesn't get any easier than that.

Awesome product. Simple to use, and works like a charm. Boiled a full kettle of water (32 oz) with one fuel tab.

LIGTWEIGHT! One pellet lasts just long enough to boil 2 1/2 cups of water. Great for backpacking, but not good in windy conditions.

This little stove is a gem. Folds flat, small, lightweight. The fuel cubes worked great and can be cut into smaller pieces if all you need is a cup of coffee.

This is good just to have on hand, along with extra tablets. One tablet will boil water or soup easily. I've put it in a bug-out bag. I have a gas hiker stove which we used for the meal and used this for the beverage water. It takes so little room. Could also use for hand warming.

I ride dual sport/touring bikes on 7-10 day treks to Montana. That means I have to keep gear to a minimum to make the limited luggage space work for that long. I always used a Coleman dual fuel before but the unit and fuel bottles took too much space and weight when all I need is to be able to heat water for freeze-dried foods I use and for coffee singles. This does that just fine and for about 1/4 the weight and 3/4 of the space of just my old stove alone, I now have a stove AND fuel that will do what I need (heat water). I pack some foil for a wind screen and am in business. This works for me and allows me to carry other stuff I had to leave behind before, due to weight and space.
