Comments about Suunto Partner Compass: Spend a few bucks more and get a compass with adjustable declination, this one requires that you line up the needle outside of it's markings to take into account declination. Not a big deal for a backup "survial" tool, but not really cool either.

Merchant response: The other thing to do is use USGS maps that have magnetic north designated so you can line the base up to the magnetic north desalinated arrow on the map for map orientation.
