Comments about Kenyon Seam Sealer and Recoat 3-10 oz.:

I used this to recoat leaky tent-fly seams made prior to factory seam sealing. I haven't tested it yet.

I also plan to use it on a really old tent where waterproof coating has come off in a few spots.

I also used it to reseal factory seam sealing on old Goretex rain pants. The original glue had dried out and the fabric strips came loose. This was labor intensive and difficult and has not been tested for effectiveness yet.

I'm hoping the jar-type container will allow me to use this over time vs. tubes which often don't.

I recoated a tent with this, and even after seven days it was sticky and never would completely dry. When it rained while we were camping on the trail, it dissolved and ran. I would have been much better off not recoating with this stuff.

My favorite piece of luggage is an old rolling duffel bag made out of Cordura nylon. The inside was covered in a flexible coating to make it waterproof, like a tent. Over the years, the coating started to severely crack and peel off. It would get on everything in my bag. I decided to try this product. It worked great. I vacuumed out as much of the old coating as I could, and then I "painted" this Recoat on the inside of the luggage with a 1-inch paint brush. I don't have any of that old flaky coating any more. It is "gone." In reality, it is still there, but it has been incorporated into the new coating, which has a shine to it. I like the looks of it. It looks great. The new coating has very little odor, and for what little remains, I am sure that it will be gone with time. The coating easily washes out of the paint brush with water. When you receive the container, be sure to stir it. It is thinner at the top of the container as compared to the bottom. If two pieces of fabric are coated and allowed to touch each other as they dry, they will become temporarily stuck together, but they can be later pulled apart, but the coating will not be as smooth where the two pieces of fabric were stuck together. This can be touched up with additional Recoat. I have not tested the new coating with regards to water resistance, but it has to be better than the old, peeling coating. The back of the container says that is contains aqueous urethane, in case you were wondering about the chemistry. I strongly recommend this product with the caveat that it will most assuredly not cover the "75sq. feet" as stated on the label. Other reviewers have commented on the coverage as well.

Need to purchase a better application brush. Sealer is relatively thin which makes it easy to spread and at the same time easy to run. Plus side, is that you don't end up using excessive amounts for proper coverage.

Very surprised how the stuff dried. Nice and smooth and no stickiness to it at all. Appears to be a very high quality product.

This would not be recommended for coating cotton canvas. It will not allow the material to breath once coated, This product is meant for synthetic fabrics.

Is this product thin enough that it could be put into a spray bottle and sprayed over the surface of the tent floor? If it was thin enough then this seems like it would be an easy way to apply it evenly. If it was too thick could you thin it with water then spray a couple of coats to make up for the thinning of the product? Just a thought.

Remove as much of the loose flaking material as possible and then Coat the polyurethane ReCoat over top.

I have a NF Rock 22 that's about 9 years old and the rain fly has 2 small holes in the top (Just found this out last week on the Allagash). Could I use the Seam sealer 3 as an adhesive and a small piece of 1.9 oz nylon fabric (21472) as a patch?
Does Campmor sell Rainfly's for the NF Rock 22?

                                      Thanks,

                                      Dan U.

My rain fly's original waterproof coating is getting tacky/slightly sticky. If I use this product, will it dry and cover/eliminate the sticky feel of the original fly? Do I need to remove the original damaged coating?

Once you have the sticky fly open put talcum powder or baby powder over the entire sticky surface. Shack out and this will remove the stickiness.

Is http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___80947?cm_vc=PDPZ2 (Kenyon Seam Sealer) better for sealing seams? Or is this the same stuff? I need a fair amount to seal seams on a new 14x10 tent. Is Recoat3 the stuff I should be using? No other site including Kenyon refers to this product as seam sealer and recoat3. I purchased it for the seams but am thinking it is designed for the tent fabric... Campmors modified name on this product may have pointed me in the wrong direction.

This can be used to seal both the seams and recoating fabrics that have lost their waterproofing
