Really great storage containers, but not sure about the BPA free certification. Not stamped on plastic, just a flimsy sticker anybody could stick on. Would like to know for sure if BPA free.

Comments about Reliance Rhino Pak BPA-Free 5.5 Gallon Water Storage Container:

we found out this is too much bulk/weight. Far too heavy for regular use, unless one wants the work-out!! Ended up with 3 gal. at 20lbs less weight.....Good product though, must flatten sealing surface at gaskets to store flat.

      Product description says BPA-free.

Comments about Reliance Rhino Pak BPA-Free 5.5 Gallon Water Storage Container:

Your product description says "BPA-free". The containers arrived with a paper sticker on them saying BPA-free, but nothing is permanently embossed in the plastic stating that, the way Nalgene bottles do. Given country of origin I have some concerns.

      Store spout separately

      By Jim

      from NJ

      Verified Buyer

      Pros

      • Stable shape
      • Tough

      Cons

      • Had to fiddle with it

      Best Uses

      • Airplane ballast

Comments about Reliance Rhino Pak BPA-Free 5.5 Gallon Water Storage Container:

You have to store the spout separately if you don't want it to leak. Removing the flash from the seams on the sealing surfaces also helps.

I am using it as ballast in the back of an airplane, and possible emergency drinking water. I like it because it is heavy, lays flat and stays put. Not leaking is also important.

Comments about Reliance Rhino Pak BPA-Free 5.5 Gallon Water Storage Container:

bought specifically for a SHTF scenerio. too heavy to bug out with, but perfect to throw a few in your closet for an emergency because of the slim size, as opposed to the wider 'aqua-tainers.' also with some simple assembling, the cap can be reversed into a pour spout with cap (picture enclosed).

Comments about Reliance Rhino Pak BPA-Free 5.5 Gallon Water Storage Container:

I'll start with the PROs, then we'll get to the CONs:

PROs: These containers are solid - much thicker and tougher than I expected. For example, with most plastic containers, if you were to give a corner a good whack or drop, they'd indent. You'd have a really hard time doing that with these. They're a great size too and much easier to pour - there's a curve on the underside near the back to help control it when pouring. The air vent is solid as well and seals very well (once fixed - see CONs for details).

CONs: As other's have noted, these are prone to leaking. The reason for this is in the way they're made (this is why i'm only giving them 4 stars) - like a lot of plastic things, they're made of two halves that are welded together and they're not always perfectly aligned and often have a flange of plastic that sandwiches out. The unevenness and excess plastic don't allow a great seal to be made, so they leak. BUT IT"S EASY TO FIX... if you're handy and careful, all you have to do is take a straight razor blade and plane off the excess plastic and even off the misalignments. The plastic on these is thick enough that you'll have plenty of material to work with. Once I did this, they sealed up great (had they come this way I'd have given them 5 stars).

Overall a great product - I'd buy more if I needed them.

What is the best way to clean the inside of the container before the first use. I purchased 4 containers and I have had a hard time getting a plastic taste out of the stored water. And, the first time I filled the containers the water had a strong plastic smell.

So far you have not answered my question, since this is the second time asking.
