I love taking soup to work, but really dont have a need to buy a thermos, as we have a microwave. I commute on my bike and this is a great and sturdy vessel- carries just enough for a decent lunch! Love it!

Comments about Nalgene 16 oz. Straight Jar:

I like the wide mouth and short size--easier to load and clean. Loaded with powders -- ground coffee and powdered chocolate, and keeps moisture out with no clumping.

For backpacking, I'd probably use ziplocks for easier packing.

Comments about Nalgene 16 oz. Straight Jar:

Excellent bowl for backpacking, car camping, picnicking, what have you. It's a great portion size for food and can carry delicate items that you do not want crushed because of it's hard plastic density. Love it. Nalgene use to make this same bowl in a neat aquamarine color, but I'm definitely not complaining bout it cause it gets the job done just the same.

This is the perfect size to hold a Mtn House 1-person serving meal AND the 1 3/4 cups it takes to rehydrate it and still have plenty of room to mix it up and not make a big mess. It is sturdy enough to hold up in your pack, cleans up well.

I use this as a backpacking bowl/food storage. It works well, but it is thinner and more flimsy than I was expecting. It doesn't seem durable enough to last through extended (>1 month) trips, but it works well for week-long adventures.
