Best Uses Comments about Rome Pioneer Large Camp Grate: I bought this grate and used it one time. All of the plating came off and it is now covered with rust. You cannot use this for direct food contact. If you are looking for something to place pots and pans on this would work. I strongly recommend a stainless steel cooking grate instead of this piece of junk!

Comments about Rome Pioneer Large Camp Grate: This is great for cooking on the firepits at campgrounds and at the beach. I purchased 2 of them since I cook everything over the wood fires. they are strong enough to hold frying pans and perfect to grill steak or corn right on the grate. I also bought one for my son to use on his backyard fire pit. The firepits are larger than rock rings and the length of the grates fit perfectly.

Comments about Rome Pioneer Large Camp Grate: I haven:'t used these Grills yet but they are comparable in wire gauge heaviness to say, Weber grill, That's what I used use while camping and cooking on a wood fire, They look as if you use them after the fire has coaled they will last a very long time. I bought two and plan to connect them and make a 2' X 2' grill. I was really looking for something of this or equal quality.(I had a very hard time finding these with the search engines online) When they arrived I was very happy with the quality, It was just what I was looking for.

Comments about Rome Pioneer Large Camp Grate: Old grill died on me. I love camping and the open fire so I built a backyard fire pit. Bought this unit and it has been a perfect fit and I have no need to buy a new grill.

Comments about Rome Pioneer Large Camp Grate: I probably misread the description as I expected a backpacking grill but this is way too big and heavy for that. Would be perfect for use on a metal fire ring while car camping. Very sturdy with lots of area on which to cook or heat water.
