This is a great book about the Appalachian Trail by the man who would eventually become the President of the Appalachian Trail Museum. This is not a How To book but more a general treatise on the trail from history to life on the trail and post trail. Includes profiles of and stories from former thru-hikers. The stories by and about the colorful characters that you can find on the trail will amuse, inspire and touch you. This book has motivated many to try thru-hiking because it accurately conveys the haunting lure of the Appalachian Trail that so many of us feel or will feel when we read books like this.
