Comments about Kokatat Surfskin Paddle Pant: I bought these for a long kayak campign trip in alaska and they worked well, we were following the coast and sounds so never very far from land (if we were I'd use a wet or dry suit). I ended up using them through the fall and now winter in CA for a traditional paddleboard. THe waist cord wouldnt' stay tied and the hole tore a bit so I put in a thicker cord. After heavy use some of the waist stiching is starting to come out so I'll restitich it and buy a second pair. They don't dry that fast (for daily use0 but at elast are warm when wet. The reinforced knees prevent wear there but tend to stick a bit to the board pad.

Comments about Kokatat Surfskin Paddle Pant: I've used the pants just once for a paddle on my sit-on-top kayak on the Onancock Creek on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I felt comfortable pedaling the (Hobie foot-powered) kayak through a bit of late October windspray from the small waves against the side of the boat, but I had a hard time to take the pants off: the waist cord was difficult to get undone. I'm not sure if a grommet or a more-sturdy cord would be the solution, but I had a hard time to get my fingers to undo the overhand of even a simple bow in the small nylon cord in the waistband. The cord is almost the same heft as a shoe-lace for a dress shoe.

Q:
Are the surfskin pants used for an insulating layer or a water-shedding layer or both? Do the waist and cuff neoprene help keep water out? I'm trying to compare them to hydroskin pants. Any information you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks.1 answer
A:
The Kokatat Surfskin Paddle Pant is waterproof with neoprense waist and cuffs to keep water out. It can be used for insulating or by itself as a waterproof pant.
