      Comments about Primus ClassicTrail Stove:

When I'm backpacking I prefer my JetBoil, but I only boil water. However, in my role as a QM Adviser for a Scout troop, the JetBoil really isn't suitable for their use. It's single-purpose, somewhat fragile, expensive, and you have to pay attention to avoid serious burns.

Scouts could break an anvil, so we buy these for the troop. They're simple, durable, and if they do manage to destroy one, it's only $25 for a replacement. We have 4 or 5 of them and have yet to replace any in about 5 years of abuse. Highly recommend.

            Comments about Primus ClassicTrail Stove:

I've used this on a couple of BSA campouts to boil water and in one instance to heat soup. It boils a couple cups of water in about five minutes. Lights easily, goes strong, and temperature control seems reasonable. I'm told that it won't work very well in cold temps but it worked fine in March when the morning temp was probably about 35. Its weak point may be stability. I may try to figure out or acquire some kind of base to set it in to improve that. Otherwise, it's great.

I've used this on one Scout trip. It started right up and ran great at temperatures around freezing. Boiled a half liter of very cold water in five minutes. We also cooked sausage and hash browns over it. Used probably most of a JetBoil canister but we probably ran it for about an hour on high. Extremely easy to start and more stable (on a picnic table) than I expected.

The Primus Classic Trail Stove would get more than hot enough to cook a fish in a back pack fry pan. You would want to lower the heat and cover the pan to increase the efficiency of cooking the fish without burning it.

Most stoves have proprietary threads so you can not interchange gas canisters however occasionally you will find ones that are interchangeable. It is really a situation you won't know until you try.

Yes. I believe these stoves use US standard valves like the CV 470 and you it is safe to remove the canister when still partially full.
