I am a creature of habit that does NOT understand the clothes industry. I would like to find well made long inseam quick drying shorts that have an inner liner with a built in belt that is tight fitting. I have an old pair of Columbia shorts that fit that bill with many pockets, tight fitting waist, comfortable that can be used for swimming, football games, shopping, etc... why can't I still buy them? UPS protection is not an application, it is a rating that depends on the thickness and weave of the thread that is used to make the garment. A thicker tighter weave has a higher UPF rating than a lighter thread with a tight weave. All open weaves would not qualify as a UPF protected garment.Answered on 5/18/2012 by Steve from Campmor
