The grip is smooth and I found my hands sliding across the shaft but that may be due to faulty technique. I'll put some grip tape on it but otherwise great paddle. Adjustable for feathering though the power face is wide/large so I doubt it reduces fatigue.

Comments about Bending Branches Whisper Kayak Paddle - Campmor Logo: I've found this paddle just fine for my purposes (2-4 hour trips on flat water). It seems quite sturdy, and light for the price. However, when the paddle arrived, the button needed to keep the paddle together was too wide to fit through the hole in the shaft. Once I shaved some plastic off the hole, it works fine, but it would have been nice if it were perfect out of the box.

The "composite" ferrule failed on me the first time I actually stressed the paddle (paddle float reentry). The paddle shaft snapped cleanly in half. DO NOT RELY on this paddle in an emergency. Makes a good backup paddle, I still use the previous version as my primary paddle...the aluminum ferrule makes all the difference. Displaying reviews 1-9 |

As for the appropriate size that is a function of the type of paddling you will be doing. For river and faster currents a shorter paddle is best for open water a longer paddle will give you more tracking power to navigate open water.Answered on 7/7/2011 by Steve from Campmor
