I've been using the heat packs for a decade - in fact, some have lasted that long, despite repeated boiling to reactivate for my next cold weather venture. That makes them cost effective. However, the packs can activate when you don't want them to. Just a slight bend and off they go. So you have to carry them carefully until you want them to spread their heat. They last for about 45 minutes, and they heat into a hardened form which can feel weird inside your mittens or ski gloves - and that can limit flexibility and use of poles or hiking sticks. Still, this is a product worth buying. Just tuck a few of the disposable handwarmers into your pocket or packsack as a backup and to use when the reusable ones have fulfilled their duty for the day. One other thing - I recently ordered 4 handwarmers; one activated inside the shipping box - I assume from not being protected from shuffling and handling. CampMor promptly replaced that one free, even though I told the customer service agent that I could simply boil it. Two days later a new one arrived. I'll add one more star to my review for this company.

The warmth is instant and nearly HOT after activating which is just a little snap of the disk. I am 100% dyslexic, but I can do this!
I do not like the fact that the handwarmer turns into a hard, awkward shape in moments. The warmth is wonderful, but the hardness (quite "edgy") is uncomfortable inside my mittens or insulated mitts. As others have noted, the warmers last for years - a super plus. Can't microwave because the disk is metal. If the disk bends while the warmer is in your pocket or packsack, it will activate and you might not know it until you reach to use it in the cold. Not a good thing. I now carry my warmers in little cases to keep that from happening. It's horrid to be on a snowshoe trail and discover that the warmer has run out of heat!
I do like the product enough to order a few more.

I order about five of these packs every 6 months or so and one is always defective. I don't know why the quality controls is so bad. Anyway, it is a really good product when it works. I think it is the best of the reusable heat packs because it is easy to activate and is just the right size.

My first two packets were probably about 25 years old. My husband had them when he coached and when he was involved with outdoor activities with students. This winter I was using them for an aching shoulder muscle. The heat helped so much. Finally the pactets got tired and I couldn't reuse them anymore. I ordered four more that I think will last me the rest of my life.

Just replaced my second pair to keep on hand for cold weather. They last for years. Note that they are not as effective as a nice pair of 10 hour carbon activated hand warmers, but for short term high heat applications they can be a life saver.

I love that they are "rechargeable" and so they are a lifesaver to warm up my hands after a long cold dive. They are ONLY to be used on the surface- NEVER stick them in your dry/wet suit!! These provide very high heat compared to charcoal packs, and only last about an hour. So know that before you think this is the item to stick in your gloves for comfort in cold weather. They will get uncomfortably hot, and then you'll freeze again in short order. Know when and how to use them and you will enjoy them.

These things are magic!
Tweak the disc and watch it get white and HOT!!!
They stay hot for about 2 hours then boil it to recharge and that stays hot for about 2 hours then you can tweak the disc again.
Hand warmer, chest (core) warmer, sleeping bag warmer....

Works just like it says, I probably have purchased 10-15 of them in the last few years for myself and friends.

I started using these for camping and hunting...showed them to our EMS Captain and we've been using them every since. They are great and are easily cleaned and re-charged.
