Comments about SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier: Nice little filtration device but won't work when temperature gets very low. Have to keep it in your pants pocket so the battery stays warm.

Comments about SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier: This is now part of my backpacking winter kit. Very easy to use with gloves, aids in keeping fingers dry, no more frozen filters. Slip it into a torso pocket to keep the batteries warm.

Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier: Actually I bought this as a present a few months ago because it was on a gift registry. The groom knew of it as he writes for an outdoor clothing company. He swears by it and has had it long enough for me to know he hasn't gotten sick. This time I purchased it as a gift for my husband's son who is a wildlife biologist. Well, he already has one and thinks it's great. I will be keeping this because it is good to have when the unexpected happens. Haven't used it myself but my husband's son said it is so easy and fast to get rid of bacteria in the water that you really don't believe it has done anything and he usually zaps things longer than recommended just to be sure. Since an "avid adventurer" and an "environmentalist" recommend this product I would say it is a good bet to do what it says it will do.
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier: We decided to try this on a hiking trip in New Hampshire. When it came we tested it at home and it worked fine. When we got on our trip it did not work. It appears the batteries did not work or died. Of course it uses some obscure battery other than AA or AAA so we did not have a replacement. We were left high and dry and reduced to boiling water with the JetBoil. The idea is great but you are probably better off with a manual pump. At least you know that it works.

Comments about SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier: I keep one in every emergency bag I have (work, car & home). Best to filter water first (I use the fits all filter) then use this to kill anything that gets thru the filter. Much quicker than boiling water and no nasty taste from chemicals. Awesome product!
