I love mine because it is so light and takes up virtually no space when empty. Some commenters thought that it should have a pop cap, but I don't agree because then it would be more likely to leak when packed tightly in a heavy backpack. I've frozen mine (underfilled) without any problems. It resided in my ski/boot bag all winter and never leaked. Since then, it's been just about everywhere. I'm buying more!

The one thing I want to mention is that I bought them for my kids, too, and they lost their caps almost immediately. So a cap-keeper might be a good idea.

use it for day tripping... anywhere. the Platypus advantage is it is light and foldable when empty, so dont have to carry heavier bottles (like Nalegenes) back). the drawback is, cant put ice into them.

Love the very low weight, but would gladly take another oz or two for a flip spigot or even a small connector loop for the current screw cap.

If Platypus would add some sort of snap-open type of top, this product wold be perfect. I stole atop off of another store-bought water bottle and away I went. It fits perfectly in my ski parka breast pocket.

this is a good product but it would be best used in the spring or summer due to it freezing quickly in cold temp.

For those who have never seen one it makes for a good conversation piece. I originally purchased the platypus 1 liter to use for skiing, oops too big. This size is a bit too big to carry full; A big enough pocket could hold it full but it is just too bulky to ski with. I think I will get a smaller size before our next ski trip. Otherwise, it's a great size for holding a decent amount of water and easy to drink out of if you hold it just right...around the notches on the side. Like the color choices too, makes it easier to tell whose bottle is whose.

I am so disappointed with these new Platy Bottles. Look nice, but burst at seam on first trip. I wore out my old one and kept losing caps. I also wish they would include a cap ring, so you can't lose the cap. I have recently opted back to sturdier canteen/cup combo for day hiking, backpacking & off trail adventures. For lightweight, I am now using old Gatorade bottles.
