Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: Just used this pack for the first two days of the Grand Traverse in the Tetons. Wore the pack about 13-14 hrs each day with about 30 pounds and found it to be very comfortable. More importantly, it kept the weight in tight against my body and didn't throw off my balance.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: I was torn between this and the Atmos 65 for a three-season pack (up to six days). I'm glad I got this one. It is very light and very roomy for minimalists. If you tend to carry > 35 lbs, stay away from this pack. However, if you are sitting at < 20 lbs before food and water, this is probably an excellent choice. Specific items:

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: This pack carries all the gear I need for metal detecting weekend treks. I usually end up packing water and equipment as if I'm going to stay out for an extra 2 days, just for safety. The Talon is much more comfortable than mil-spec Alice I used to carry, and has features that make it almost "custom made for metal detecting and artifact hunting". The 30 lb. max load rating is about right; I brought back 12 lbs of petrified wood last weekend, and I was about at limit, but was very comfortable.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: I'm getting older and I was attracted by the light weight of the pack. I've been using a Dana Design expedition pack that holds everything handily but it weighs 7 lbs all by itself. I found the Talon to be light but, unfortunately, too small in girth to load a bear canister into. It was even difficult to jam my down sleeping bag into it. I bought it but won't use it. It's not really suitable for backpacking. I've got a daypack that would do as well or better.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: I have a short torso and was skeptical but this was adjustable enough to hike with on an overnight hike/camp in the high peaks of the Adirondack's comfortably.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: Have used this pack for 100+ mile bicycle treks, summer and winter 14er ascents, and just snowshoeing in the woods. I love it!

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: I took this pack up Mt. Hood recently and we had bad weather most of the way up. This pack kept all my things dry and in turn from freezing. It's the perfect size for a light over night or a long day hike such as Hood. It held all my food, extra clothing and emergency gear perfectly. Osprey Packs are the best hands down.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: When the pack was loaded the bottom seam stuck out and caused pain in the lower back. There was no way the pack could be used to carry a load for extended periods without substantial discomfort. I do not know if only this pack had a seam problem or if all the models are sewn this way.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Internal Frame Pack: It does have outside pockets which is nice, but I am often digging through the main space of the pack for little things that fall to the bottom. It should have pockets on the inside of the main space, but that's really picky. It's a great pack.
