We bring matches, but sometimes camp in areas where fires aren't allowed. So we needed something lightweight as a backup. This stove is perfect.

Comments about Snow Peak Stoves Giga Power Manual Stove:

*I have the automatic version of this stove, which is identical to the manual version but has the auto-igniter pre-instaled.

I bought this product about six months ago when I was first getting into backpacking. I bought it because it was light weight, small, and advertised a fast boiling time.

I use the stove with the 900 ml Snow Peak pot, and usually support the canister with a universal canister stand for extra stability. My primary use for this system is boiling water to make coffee or to cook freeze dried backpacking meals.

As one would expect, it heats fastest in warm weather. On an 80 degree day with little wind, it will heat 16 ounces of water in 3-4 minutes. Heating speed is slower on a colder day. When the temperature is below freezing, it has taken 7-10 minutes to boil the same amount of water. On one 25 degree night, my Gigapower boiled in 7 minutes while my friend's jet boil took 2.5 minutes.

Like most stoves, this one must be protected from the wind. I purchased the wind screen manufactured by Snow Peak for this stove, but after trying it a few times, I have stopped carrying it, as it provides very little protection. Instead, I carry a sheet of aluminum foil which I sit the stove on so that it can be folded up to protect the windward side of the stove. I have found this to be ver effective in even a heavy breeze.

I would recommend this stove if you are looking for simplicity, reliability, compactness, and light weight for anyone looking to use it mostly in warmer weather. If you plan to use it in the cold, and fuel efficiency is a factor, I would suggest looking at the Jet Boil instead. On a several day trek, carrying fewer fuel canisters to power the jet boil's faster boiling time will more than make up for the slight difference in weight and size.

Comments about Snow Peak Stoves Giga Power Manual Stove:

I was amazed at how small this stove is. It is tiny and takes up almost no room in the pack. The only drawback is that it would be easy to misplace. It fits on several different brands of fuel cartridges and is very easy to use. It cooks well and distributes the heat evenly. A great product.

Comments about Snow Peak Stoves Giga Power Manual Stove:

This stove worked flawlessly on a multi-day backpacking trip in Colorado. I was pleased with how lightweight it was. It also proved more stable than another stove I used with three prongs. Lows were in the low 40s and below and although I left my fuel canister out the stove performed well.

The Campmor store in NJ has these. Also if you contact Snow Peak at info@snowpeak.com and they may be able to tell you where you can get fuel local to you.

Is this stove capable of using any isobutane brand of fuel and cartridge or does it require the Giga Power cartridge?

The Snow Peak Stoves Giga Power Manual Stove can be used with most isobutane fuel cartirdges.

Has anyone used this product above 9000 ft elevation? Did it work ok. I have used mine at about that elevation, work pretty good. Have the pizoelectric lighter on mine and have some issue with it at certain elevations, I always bring matches or lighter just in case.

Isobutane above 9000 ft will work as long as the temperatures are not extremely cold. If it is deep cold at this kind of altitude the stove will not function because the pressurized will not function. If you are going to be at this type of altitude and in extreme cold opt for a liquid fuel stove.

You can use it multiple times. You can remove the stove from the canister. The canister has a self closing valve so you can use it multiple times until it is used up.
